I am all for getting a new coaching staff, but I would hope Hamilton waits till the end of the season and even has someone ready when Fulmer "retires." I just hope he doesnt do this like we did Johnny Majors. I really think UT handled that really badly. Although there was a change that was needed, Coach Majors deserved more respect than he got when leaving UT.

Any thought?

As I recall, Majors came back too soon after his surgery and forced the issue. A similar thing could be avoided this time around by bringing in someone new from outside.

I also think that before JM got sick, he was getting ready to sign an extension to his contract...After he came back, he decided he wanted more money.

UT/Fulmer arent the bad guys as much as people want to play them out to be.

It is too late for that. It is personal for everyone at this point.

I would hope that Coach Fulmer steps down. I think the Coach Majors' thing is in the back of everyones mind and they are afriad to repeat it. The whole thing has become more about politics than football, lets make it about football again. Honestly I want the best for Coach Fulmer, but getting a premier football coach is more important to me than Fulmer's feelings.

I completely agree Dawson. There are still members of the media that hold UT in a bad light for the way JM was handled. Also, it's sad that a man who gave so much to UT still doesn't feel welcome at the stadium on gameday (to be fair some of that is on him). I just hope we can demonstrate to the CFB world that we have class in dealing with coaches.

I think this is the next step in the CPF debate. Some want him thrown out and some want it to be a little more dignified. A lot of this may depend on how CPF decides to leave too.

I think the best case scenario would be for Fulmer to step down. That would save the University from being in that position. Ultimately I agree with you, and I hope that a repeat can be avoided, if only to save UT from a black eye. I have to be honest though. I have always held Fulmer responsible for the situation with Coach Majors, and there is a large part of me that thinks it would be poetic justice if he received the same treatment. That being said however, I really hope it doesn't come to that.

Well, all I can say is that as a UT grad that plopped down the $$ for my first ever set of season tickets I'm sorely disappointed in our team's performance - to the point that I probably won't buy season tickets again until they've proven to me that they can be competitive in the conference. How can the university justify a decade of mediocrity? Unfortunatly, my suspicion is that Fulmer is so tied in in Knoxville that he won't get canned until ticket sales slip and significant donations quit being made by boosters. Let's remember that to many in the UT program this is a business, and as long as the business is making money, why change anything?

I hope he just steps down. Don't be too proud or it will get ugly. Chavis and Cutcliffe can/will raise hell if thrown under the bus

That being said, if we lose four straight, I say wipe the slate clean and start looking mid season. We've paid Phil enough money over the years, if we owed him something for 1998, that debt's been paid in full by the continued ass beatings we have taken from our SEC rivals over the past 9 years.

I seem to recall that, too..
