To see Eric Berry get an opportunity to return punts this Saturday especially if Gerald can't go.

Just don't get our whole defense hurt returning punts. Our whole team for that matter.

It wouldn't be shocking to see him on special teams, but considering we've heard talk of him on offense before a handful of games (that we went on to lose) this season and it never happened, I would be surprised. Is this something I guess you saw at practice JG, or is this out of the mouth of Fulmer? If coach is telling the press to look for it, I'll look for it to not happen.

Rogan will definitely be the number 1 return guy but if the game is close and the stadium needs a boost, Berry will be back deep.
I have waited and waited for this. It only makes sense to get the ball into the hands of your best players. :worship:

You really do have to be careful how many snaps you ask of a guy.

Berry's got soul, and he'd go out there on half the offensive snaps as well if they'd let him. But that is not smart. It is a long season, and every snap takes a toll in the course of the season.

I've seen some and have heard a lot more.

CPF finally admitted in the post game interview that he's never seen any player with the vision Berry has (when Berry has the ball).

Me thinks he realizes it's time to give him a shot at returning kicks.

Tennessee's offense is going to struggle mightily in this ball game. Look for the edge anyway possible.

We can MAYBE afford to lose Dennis Rogan but the main reason we will never see EB at any other skill position than safety is that not only does he set records but also hes a gamebreaker at safety.

Thanks for sharing, justingroves. If it is a high ankle sprain, I suppose it isn't very likely Jones will be able to play. At least not at 100 %.

As far as Berry returning punts, is the only reason he is not doing that because of fear of injury? Is he the threat most of think he will be returning, or are we just hyping things up?

Berry already plays a lot of snaps (most games around the 65 mark).

If the offense could get some first downs and win the time of possession battle (ie less snaps for the defense) you'd have already seen Berry returning and getting a few snaps on O.

I really don't get everyone worrying about Berry getting hurt. I could name lots of players who have played defense that returned punts. I've seen him on the punt team anyway so they might as well put the ball in his hands.

Let's make sure that Berry is healthy when the season is over in November. That's the most important thing.

I thought the most important thing was winning games. Come Nov. not that many players are totally healthy.

I would rather have him on offense, maybe bring him in on 2nd down every seriese. Even run a hurry-up on third and short and run him out there. It could cause Bama to use a timeout or 2. Make Bama decide wether to double him and open someone else or put him one on one with a linebacker out of the backfield. Maybe even a few screens if Bama is too aggressive.

CBS's Danielson said Saturday that in a conversation with Saban, Nick said he'd spent a lot of time on these 'wild' formations, and that what he thinks most people miss with them is the notion that there is one defense a team should run against it.

Saban thinks D's should be more multiple in their approach to the 'wild'. Whether he's right or not might be a good discussion... but my point is, don't look for his team to be fooled by these shenanigans...

Ok... But if that is the reasoning, why is Rogan handling return duties? Doesn't he have a similar number of snaps? I don't doubt your football knowledge and knowledge of this team greatly eclipses my own, but I am clearly missing something here.
