Everyone is acting like you should just take the first girl at the bar. We are still in the running for a Solid QB. With this class I think we can still get players close to all the players skill set above.

We have a hold season of football to play and many highs and lows to enjoy over the next few months. Let’s not start to condemn the coaches this early on their inability to get an elite quarterback. Our coaches know which quarterbacks can play at the level necessary to execute their system and taking one of the other quarterbacks just to provide the appearance we have the player we need is not going to help them or the team. I remember how happy we were when Chrompton committed. Look how his tenure has played out so far. Tennessee is a great place for young men to play football and I believe we now have everything necessary to attract and secure the commitments of quality players at every position. We just signed the number one Kicker in the country. How many games have we lost on long runbacks and missed field goals. Just by comparing the players we are recruiting and the teams we are competing with for current players should provide us with a renewed level of confidence. USC and Florida have had a lot more success over the last 6 or 7 years and I believe JS is having a very difficult time deciding between the three schools. In fact I suspect if he truly desires to play quarterback for three or four years and face the best teams in the country week after week and developing into a quality NFL quarterback then he will makes the decision himself to attend Tennessee. Otherwise he will commit to one of the other school and possible play some his junior and senior year. I am sure our coaches are telling him this and anything else they can to convince him of the success he can have at Tennessee. But the decision comes down to what this young man thinks and the challenges he is willing to accept. As I see it the quarterback which commits to Tennessee right now must have the confidence within himself to feel he can come in and take over a team competing at the highs levels in the country week after week. It takes a very special 18 year old to make that level of commitment. It is important our coaches find the right one not just another one.

This is not meant as a pile on on Fulmer, but realistically he left this program in pretty sad shape offensively. This is going to be a 2-3 yr hard rebuild job and it will take the right kind of QB to take a chance on us. I think we'll have to take a QB that's a bit under the radar but with decent upside who's got a bit of a chip on their shoulder.

We may have to find a way to win for a few years without the marquee guys like the old days before Shuler and Manning guys like Alan Cockrell, Andy Kelly and Jeff Francis. Decent QBs who can manage a game, pass when needed and lean on a solid running game.

Hopefully we're at the bottom and can enjoy the climb back out.

This coaching staff recognizes that an improved running game with marginally better passing attack will result in an 8-4 or 7-5 season plus a bowl. That is a good improvement for the first year. An impressive win in a bowl to end the season will boost recruiting and allow them to sign a higher tier QB. I do not think we will get a top 25 QB but who we do get will position the team for Kiffin to move forward with his offense. It is plainly evident that they are stacking the defense for years to come. Put a stout D on the field and average 10-14 points more scoring per game and 9-3 or 10-2 seasons start coming quickly. At that point, begin signing your TRUE offensive stars. This is a building project. Remember, these guys have NFL experience where a decision is made to have consequences 2 years down the road. I believe Kiffin will be given that time by Hamilton.

If he had jumped on Rees, Brunetti, and Rettig after camp, would he have a commitment by now?

No. If reports are correct they recruited both Rees and Rettig pretty hard and offered Brunetti before he committed to WVU.

The biggest factor is there is very little pro-style talent in the SE this year. Most of the available guys are on the west coast or have motives to go elsewhere.

We could end up with Scroggins or Grayson without needing a decommit from a currently committed player. If we get 8-9 wins this year and look fun and flashy doing it, Kiffin will get the OLine monsters and a top QB.

Anyone who doubts our recruiting abilities because some of the top 5 pro style quarterbacks didnt come here is an idiot. So far a mormon went to BYU, and some regional west coast kids stayed home. We did not "miss" on anyone yet.

Wasn't Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford both 3 stars out of high school? It's July people, let's relax and see what the season brings to us... GO VOLS!!!
