Does CBJ recruit better and McIlwain develop players better?

The jury is still out on Mac. Maybe he gets us there and maybe he doesn't. Wish he recruited likeCBJ, but he doesn't. Still he has taken a team not favored to win the East and won it for two years in a row, splitting with UT in the process. Not sure about Mac but I wouldn't trade coaches. Would you?

I wouldn't trade for McElwain. His specialty is offense yet the offense still sucks. That defense that he inherited (and Collins kept rolling along) has saved his ass. No more Collins and his all-star corners are gone. We're going to start seeing his fingerprints showing up more on that program with his recruits and he hasn't recruited well. We'll see if he can get it done. Maybe he does. Butch may be hitting his ceiling, but you can't deny that he has greatly improved the program.

Florida's defense, no matter how many stars they have seems to tackle well. Those guys hit you and bring you down. That's why their defense is so strong year in and year out. We did not tackle well this year. Our guys try to "clip" the runner down or try to strip the ball...meanwhile the guy is still gaining yards and pulling 4 defenders with him. Florida will lose a lot this year off defense, and we will see what McElwain can do as far as recruiting. As for another year in Shoops scheme.. I hope we see better things... It would be nice to have all cylinders clicking at the same time.

McElwain is a bad coach and it has shown. People can point at him winning the East 2 years in a row but he can't beat the elite teams like FSU or Bama. Against UT he needed 5 4th downs to win a game at home and got blown out in Knoxville.

To date he hasn't been good and most UF fans would probably agree, just better than the rest of the east including Jones.

Interesting. Mac takes an underdog and wins. Butch takes a favorite and loses. But you guys are happy. We will see.

No one had said we're completely happy but Mac is not an upgrade to Butch. Not to mention the job of recruiting is much easier at UF so he would be failing huge at ut

Some are, others not so much.

I don't think his question is "fair" for lack of a better word. Too many variables, but forget all of those, straight up trade even tomorrow ? I am not "happy," but I wouldn't trade for Mac. Would you?

The Gators gave up huge plays on defense this year, including to Tennessee. There is no way that they can improve next year with all their losses on that side of the ball.

Appleby is not a good QB, but Del Rio is worse. Weak arm, couldn't get out of the way of a steam roller, fragile, and does absolutely nothing special there is a reason that he never won a major college QB job until now....only when the Gators were desperate. Gators will struggle mightily next year.

Nothing interesting to it, if horse face can't recruit while at Florida which is loaded with instate talent, why the hell would we want to trade for him? Butch may not get the job done in the end but the cupboard is stocked for the next HC if he doesn't pan out.
