I like the song and don't mind the Vol band playing it's version at all, except in late October of course. But I do not like the WHOOO!!!

I know that in the mid to late 70s when I was becoming old enough to start following football, you almost never heard the band play "Rocky Top" like you hear it now. It was always "Down the Field" after touchdowns and such. Anyone know when the band started playing it so, uh, incessantly?

Yeah I was a kid in the 70's as well. The only fight song was "Down the Field." Then we moved to Ohio in 1980 and I returned to see the 1982 Bama game during the Worlds Fair and that was when I noticed that "Rocky Top" had taken over as the main fight song.
