Does anyone remember a concert in the early 80's that was at some guy's (Bam Webster?) farm? Might have been in Columbia, TN. It was a 3 day concert and some of the bands were, Marshall Tucker Band, INXS, Cheap Trick and a lot more I'm trying to remember. Each day was broken up loosely by genre. Southern Rock, Hard Rock and New Rock.

Anybody else remember this one?

Edit: I found a Zappa set list that shows he played at Bam Webster's Farm in Columbia on 9/2/84. I don't remember him being there though. Not saying he wasn't, I just don't remember it.:)

I forgot that too.:p

It was a crazy 3 days. Slept in a tent, sat in front of the stage with a lounge chair and a cooler. Guys walked around holding up paper-plate signs advertising what they had for "sale".

I was at that concert in 1983. I came home on leave from the Army. I have a bandana that I bought there and a list of all the bands that played... somewhere in my basement. I'll look for it and post the list... I remember Joe Walsh, Joan Jett, Cheap Trick but that's about it... 26 years is a LOOONG time ago...

My name is Jill Webster. Bam Webster was my father-in-law! He has since passed away! He had this 3 day concert on his farm in Columbia, TN. It was a great concert! I remember it very well! How did you come across this?

There was also a concert called Greatest Show Country Mulsic and the Wild Turkey Jamboree. My husband can tell you more of the details of these concerts. Been a long time since these concerts. It was exactly a pre-Bonnaroo!

I was there...I was raised by hippies and this was our family vacation! It was one of the most awesome experiences a young teenage girl could ever hope for. I went up early with my dad and set up camp...we were there to watch all the other people roll in. I remember bathing in the river...camping under the stars and partying with a bunch of bikers from Missouri! Here is a link to some info I found: WikiAnswers - Where was the electric cowboy festival

I was there. Had recently returned from a 2 year tour in Germany(US Army) and was stationed in Huntsville, AL. Me and 2 other GIs got a 3 day pass. We rented a pop-up camper, lawn chairs, sleeping bags, and coolers. Bought abought 4 cases of beer and headed north. Can't remember if any bands were playing the 1st night we set-up camp.
I remember Wolfman Jack was the MC for the event. Some of the bands I haven't seen mentioned were Aerosmith, AC/DC, Blackfoot. I can't remember if it was the 1st or 2nd night, but although he wasn't on the ticket, Stevie Ray Vaughan showed up and played a heck of a show. Wolfman said he had just finished making Texas Flood in the studio. I wouldn't even had known who he was back then, if it hadn't been for a guitar playing GI I knew who couldn't quit talking about him.
As I recall, the place looked like a cow pasture, and you had to watch were you stepped. The stage was at the bottom of a slight hill with trees in the background.
I know one night we were right in front of the stage. We took turns hoisting each other onto our shoulders to get an awsome view of the scene, people as far as you could see. It seemed as if everybody was in somewhat of an altered state of mind, and grinning from ear to ear. Everyone seemed to share whatever they had.
I don't have a wife or kids, so I think I can say that it was the best time of my life to this day. I just wish I could remember more of it, and had some pics!

Wow, hadn't seen this thread in awhile. Those were some good times. Michael Hutchence and INXS absolutely rocked the place during their set. Marshall Tucker killed it...so many more.....great stuff.

Just found this great piece on the weekend:

THE ELECTRIC COWBOY FESTIVAL 1983

The lead singer of the British rock group Fastway puts a plug for his host city while fans cheer the band with upraised arms and deal with sound so loud their chests vibrate with the beat. Saturday's billing started with Axe and led to Mitch Ryder, Quiet Riot, Krokus, Blackfoot, Joe Walsh, Molly Hatchet and Shameless. Today's performers are Grand Alliance, The Elvis Brothers, Steve Marriott's Humble Pie, Madness, Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, The Producers, INXS, Greg Kihn Band, Cheap Trick and Dennis Brown. Monday acts include Bastille and Greg Allman, Kansas, Cedar Creek, Johnny Van Zant, Leon Russell, The Outlaws, Quarterflash and the Marshall Tucker Band.

I was searching the web for info about this and found this great discussion. Here's my pathetic story...

I was 21 and my 2 roomates were 18. We drove all night from western North Carolina to go to this. The only band I remember us being aware of was Kansas. I think at this point I had only been to 4 or 5 concerts in my life. We were also planning on visiting The Farm (a commune in that area). When we got to The Farm...it was closed to visitors because most of the residents were working the festival.

So we venture on to the fest and get in line. When we get to the front and they ask $30 dollars a piece...we freaked out. (Yes, I know...check my screen name) The most we had ever paid for a concert at that time was a whopping $7.50!!! So we immediatly bailed. The guys running the gate had to clear room for us to turn around and we rolled back to the highway against the flow of traffic.

We find a cheap ass motel and crash for the night. We hit the road to go home early next morning. As we're cruising through mist covered fields and pastures, we pass and old school general store/gas station. The gas pumps were 1950's era and when we went inside, the guy behind the counter looked like he was straight off of the Amercan Gothic painting.(The one with the old couple standing with stoic looks on their faces and the guy's holding a pitchfork).

So anyways...I'm looking for some donuts or sticky buns or something I can call breakfast, when one of my buddies says "Casey, come here!" I said "OK, I'll be right there." He says "no, Casey, COME HERE!". So I go up to the counter where my friend and the old guy are standing...and the whole case is filled with rolling papers, pipes, etc. and the shelves behind him are filled with bongs and water pipes.

Now North Carolina had made paraphenalia illegal a couple of years earlier...so we were like kids in a candy store. "We'll take one of those, 3 of these, a whole case of this, etc. I think we probably spent more money there than the concert would have cost. :loco:

Cliffs.

-Drove 600+ miles to see concert.

-Concert was too expensive at $30 (1983) a pop, left for home.

-Found a 1983 head shop/gas station and spent more there than what the concert cost.

Interesting thread bump.

Welcome to VN. Stick around.
Anyway, the real reason I chimed in. What screen resolution do you use? The reason I ask is because I made that sig on my laptop and didn't take into account screen resolution, on my desktop (1920x1080) it shows up too far to the left. It bugs me, I'd like to fix it, lol.

My work monitor is 1920x1080, which is where I do most of my PC surfing. The rest of the time I am mostly on my phone or ipad.
