I know he did an excellent job by bringing Bruce Pearl in.I am having trouble understanding his "lack of understanding" of Vol football.I know he tried to re-explain his opinion but he just seems out of touch with the football program.
1.The name Tennessee draws recruits to start with, the dedicated fan base, the orange/white in the stadium.
2.Tennessee has always (95%) been in the top tier of recruitng.
3.Basically he seemed to have little confidence in Tennessee's ability to bring in good players and a good coach and I just don't buy that from the Clemson grad.I think he has put his foot in his mouth, ticked off alot of fans, and tried to clean it up afterwards. As for me, maybe we need another AD before another coach, one that understands Tennessee football and it's history.

Hamilton's problem is that he is trapped by his own actions. Basically, he cannot go to the money people and the BOT and say that he was wrong in giving the extension to Fulmer and the contracts to the coordinators, but now they should for some reason trust his judgment. My guess is that he got played by Fulmer and Co., which probably means that he is not really qualified for the job.

I'm still impressed he hired Pearl. No doubt he was the best available coach. IMO that bought him some equity.

I too, am excited about our basketball program and the transition to Pearl.....but it is easy to fire a b'ball coach at Tennessee (Dickey fired three)....it will take some cojones to fire a football coach with 15 years on the job and a National Championship on his resume and Hamilton doesn't have them.
