I don't think I've ever seen other schools' coaching searches go anything like the last 3 we have done.
Where each day you have a new candidate listed on major sites and followed by reports of a rejection and then on to the next candidate.
I know many of you look at it and conclude "Well, that's because no one wants to come here," but I wonder if the issue has more to do with the method of the search (and those running it, of course).
Setting aside the differences in money (because all these guys are millionaires already), how many of us would just pack up everything and commit long-term to a job in another part of the country, with lots of responsibilities, if it was just offered to us out of the blue, in a 24 hour period, and not much time was spent giving us info about the job or how it fit our goals or even details about who we're working with?
I can't imagine most schools just call up a guy and offer them a job and try to force an immediate decision, without any previous discussion or planning, but that seems to be how we try to conduct every major coaching search.
