Dobbs- the Last True VFL QB?

"Vol For Life was the brainchild of Derek Dooley. Hired to replace Lane Kiffin in 2010, the new Tennessee coach knew his football team needed a program that taught life skills, one that looked after players and helped them prepare for life after football.

'What we were trying to say at that time,' Davis said, 'was once you're a Vol, you're a Vol For Life. We're not turning our backs on you once you've given us your four years.

'We're going to stick with you, try to help you become a successful young man beyond your time at Tennessee. It's not about the next four years, it's about the next 40 years."

Nah, the players started it by hosting a tailgate annually before the Orange & White game in the early Dooley years - then Dooley and the University co-opted it.

Dobbs’ annual charity golf tournament and concert event is an accepted extension of that.

The closest thing to objective criteria I’ve heard are: 1. that it is limited to players and ex-players, and 2. if your teammates would call you one, then you are one.
Obviously there are dueling narratives; the official line, and collective memory of those involved. 🤷🏻‍♂️

JG spent 5 years on the Hill, got a degree, had to play for a bunch of bozos as coaches and took some of the biggest hits a a vol qb have ever taken. It’s not his fault that our coaches couldn’t find someone better than him from 2017-2020. Went to WSU for his extra covid year as he knew he wasn’t going to play for UT his final year. Don’t begrudge him that.

Also Hendon raised this program to heights not seen since the 90s and Milton stuck around as a backup in 22 eventually leading us to our biggest bowl win since 98.

All 3 are VFL in my book.

He finished at Washington St.

Thank God

Our 2021 season wasn't great but by God we were objectively the most entertaining team/fanbase in the country that year lol.

Once we realized we were in good hands with Hooker under center we started becoming Tennessee again A little weird, a bit obnoxious, and always loud. Mustard and golf balls for everyone courtesy of the Vols.
