With the current state of college football, it made me think that Dobbs might be the last QB to start and finish his career in the hills of east Tennessee. Since Dobbs, we haven't had a starting QB who came here out of high school and ended his career here. Not to say we haven't had or won't have qbs who are amazing and love UT, just with transfers the way they are, will we ever see a starter initially come here and stay? Hopefully GMac and Faizon do.

Grateful for Joshua Dobbs.

He finished at Washington St.
Got his degree and played 5 years at TN. No one here is really qualified to decide who gets to be a VFL or whatever, unless you were on the team. This type of discussion is silly and disrespectful to the players in my view.

So according to this topic, Miles Kitzelman doesn't deserve to be called VFL. He's a Bammer like Pruitt or something?

Agree with this. VFL has always been a fan interpretation thing. Never seen a true definition of it.

It started as a player relations thing and then turned goofy once fans got a hold of it and treated it like a cult or something.
Nah, the players started it by hosting a tailgate annually before the Orange & White game in the early Dooley years - then Dooley and the University co-opted it.

Dobbs’ annual charity golf tournament and concert event is an accepted extension of that.

The closest thing to objective criteria I’ve heard are: 1. that it is limited to players and ex-players, and 2. if your teammates would call you one, then you are one.

Forgot about the Covid bonus year. Still, he came in as a Freshman and left after his Senior year with a degree. Not sure what else he was supposed to do.
I was pretty harsh on JG while he was here. Some if his decisions deserved it. But he spent a lot of time here through some of TNs worst football times. That kid got smeared all over the field but kept coming back. Hard to forgive some of his Saturday decisions but he’s a VFL in my eyes

You know the wordt thing about VFL?

If i recall correctly, Derek Dooley coined it.
"Vol For Life was the brainchild of Derek Dooley. Hired to replace Lane Kiffin in 2010, the new Tennessee coach knew his football team needed a program that taught life skills, one that looked after players and helped them prepare for life after football.

'What we were trying to say at that time,' Davis said, 'was once you're a Vol, you're a Vol For Life. We're not turning our backs on you once you've given us your four years.

'We're going to stick with you, try to help you become a successful young man beyond your time at Tennessee. It's not about the next four years, it's about the next 40 years."

Now don't you be up in here being reasonable, this is a message board with a reputation to uphold!
