He's also tied for the national lead in 4th-quarter TD passes w/ 6. It's amazing that he threw 40 times in the 4th quarter last year for 0 TDs, and now he has 6 on just 24 pass attempts.

Interesting but not surprising to see that his passing efficiency in the 1st quarter is among the nation's worst.

* Q1: 17 of 38 for 141 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT...PE rating 79.34 (98th nationally)
* Q2: 22-36-263-2-2...PE rating 129.70 (67th)
* Q3: 21-34-283-4-1...PE rating 164.63 (23rd)
* Q4: 16-24-337-6-2...PE rating 250.45 (2nd)

Dobbs' overall PE rating: 146.50 (49th) compared to 127.01 (70th) last year.

He has 13 TD passes through 5 games after having just 15 in 13 games last year, but he's also thrown 6 INTs already compared to 5 all of last season.

The slow starts are just puzzling. Dobbs on the other hand has elevated his game to another level..

In fairness to Dobbs, there have been a ton of drops by the receivers in the first halves.

Likely not too puzzling... most teams will have figured DeBord out by now, and know what plays are coming.

In Q3-4 DeBord starts to open Dobbs up and get back to the free wheeling style Dobbie knows how to play.

Plus, I do think this team is conditioned much better than most they have played this year... a lot of late game energy left and that factors in well for the Vols.

Obviously this is wrong. I just read on another thread that Josh throws picks in crunch time?

Dobbs is just showing what he can do when they actually let him pass.

That's not it.

They let Dobbs pass in the 1st and 2nd Qtr. His receivers just tend to drop the ball until halftime, for some mysterious reason.

Plus the OL provides better protection in the 2nd half, and I think Dobbs himself actually gets more accurate as the game goes along.

In summary, if you look closer, it's more about execution than play calling. And I mean execution across the entire offense, all position groups.
