Do your kids care?

I would like to see the rest of the truck.

Great job on the kids.
Thank you sir.

That was at the GA game this past weekend. Came across it on our way out. I think they should do a tour with it. I imagine it would attract a crowd if they scheduled it to appear in different shopping center parking lots.

Kids, more than any other group, follow what they perceive to be winners. And they associate winning at something as leadership. Kids are very perceptive and will fall in line with the individual or team that appears to be winning/dominating because they see them as "the best" or "the leader".

My 9 year old daughter will watch 5 minutes of UT football and bluntly tell me, your team isnt very good and then she will go and watch the Ohio State game with her mother because her mother is cheering and happy and she can connect that cheerfullness with what she sees happening on the TV. Kids never want to be associated with losers because they feel like that association projects onto them and also because they want to learn from the person that seems to be doing (whatever it is, sports, life, etc) the best. They are attracted to leaders and they associate leadership with winning.

That mentality by the way extends all the way to high school football recruits.

This actually got me curious. I went back and looked at the TN records for the first 14 years of my life. My findings were surprising. When I was a kid, I thought we were just always good, but reality is we were pretty bad from '75 to '88 with a few notable exceptions ('84/'85 stands out, especially the Sugar Bowl win against Miami). The key was '89. I was 14 and that year we went 11-1, and from '89 until '01 we were as good as anyone, with a run for the ages from '95 to 2001. I was a UTK student from 94 to 99, all of the Manning years plus the title run in 98. I know most here know this history, but my point is this...I feel there is hope yet for my kids and their generation if Pruitt can get this thing going in the next 2 to 3 years.

You would be surprised how just a few good memories can wipe/block out all the bad ones when you are a kid.

My son is 17 and daughter 10...have taken them to many games..pick cupcakes so we win. They care only because i care a bunch. We have sucked for their entire lives.

In many ways, yes...we have lost an entire generation, there are very, very few rabid UT fans under 20 rhat would never miss a game...its sad.

I work with elementary-age kids in Rutherford county, both as a sports coach and also with my church's elementary school ministry. I can tell you I know several kids whose parents are Tennessee fans but the kids are bama fans. Why do you think that is? Yes very close to losing a generation of fans. But let's be honest losing is not the only issue, I think the upcoming generations are going to be very much more a fan of individual players than they are teams. Not sure why this is but it seems more common.
