Do you think it is possible that this was a wake up call to Fulmer? We all know he was way too conservative in his approach the last several years. But we all have to admit, at one time he was a good coach. During the 90's, there was nobody better.

Is it possible this makes him hungry again and he goes on to coach somewhere else and be successful?

Do you want him to go somewhere else and be successful? Do you care?

Just curious - I honestly don't know how I feel. I despised him the last several years.

I was impartial on this but I feel the arrogant manner that he approached his "retirement" was supremely in his own self-interest.

That wasn't bad... it's a business after all... but the way he used his tenure and "loyalty" to UT as reproach was sickening. I could care less what he does but I still wouldn't say I hate his guts.

Why not...
As long as he isn't successful elsewhere in the SEC (don't have to worry about that), then I'm fine with him winning again. Like him or not, he is a good coach. He just used to be a little better, and he's not quite good enough to keep up with the way the SEC is going these days.
Still, I'd love to see him win at a place like Maryland or UCF. He'll always be a Vol, and he'll always love this university.

Phil loved TN more than anyone so I don't see any concievable reason not to wish him the best.

It sure would be interesting to see him on the Gators sideline.

He bled orange for his whole life and while he may not like Kiffin, he still bleed oranges and is a Tennessee guy. A guy who did so much for his university throughout the 90's I will always have respect for even if he lost it in the end. I don't understand the hate for him. I hope he is very successful somewhere else.

Really? Loved them so much he took his $6mil to the bank in addition to taking a job at the UTAD doing nothing. All of that took away money that the UTAD could have used. If he loved UT he would have donated 1/2 of his firing consolation to a scholarship fund.

He stayed at UT because he was content there. He stayed because he probably knew he'd get his @ss handed to him in the NFL. He stayed because, for most of his tenure, the boosters were happy because he was beating a weakened Alabama team.


Peyton Manning has shown more loyalty to UT than Fulmer has.

Then they shouldn't self promote by claiming a die-hard loyalty that doesn't exist.


He was a politician first and foremost and played to his constituency. I have no love for that man.

That's ridiculous, I didn't say he loved them more than his family and his livelyhood. When you retire from what ever it is you do, I want you to give your retirement fund back to them so you don't inconvenience the organization you gave so much of your life to. :birgits_giggle:

If you were firmly in-place at your job and you got ousted for a cocky, young kid with a hot wife... you'd be hating on him too.


Especially when he does better than you.

I'm jealous of Fulmer? Sure, I'm jealous in that I wish I could get consistently embarrassed by my peers for years on end and still get paid in the millions... and then get paid $6mil when I got fired and pull down a job for half a year as a consolation... from the folks that fired me.


Yeah, I'm jealous of that.

I don't care who does or don't like/love Fulmer...he was,he is and will always be a Volunteer!!!! I wish him great success anywhere he goes...Go Vols!!!:cool:

Fail spent the 90s losing to Florida, and he spent this decade making UT a second-tier program.

Taking into account his attitude after his long overdue firing, I could care less what happens to Stay Puft.

As soon as the rest of the league got rid of their incompetent coaches, The Fired Coach's true abilities were exposed.

He loved UT. He bled orange more than anyone. That's why he stayed. It had nothing to do with being comfortable and it sure as hell had nothing to do with the NFL. He would have worked at UT for a whole lot less. He even gave the University $1M of his salary back just a couple years ago. UT forced him out and he was owed the $6M via his contract. That part was not his doing.
