Do you think Oklahoma goes after coach Huepel after this season?

First off- Oklahoma is going to be good this year and that is going to be a tough game for us. Thankfully at Neyland. Venables isn’t going anywhere.

2- If they did fire him, yes they would come after Josh. No he would not take their job. Josh is close with Venables, who just fired their OC last year who is now on our staff.

3- quit acting like this. Kiffin left 15 years ago. Get over it. It was a generational thing.

4- they are in the midst of a transition and don’t have a permanent Athletics Director.

Now if they hired Danny White, then yes, we would be in trouble, but Danny White isn’t leaving.

Golesh would be the most seamless transition, since he's been here already and runs a similar offense to CJH. However he's not been a head coach for very long and I'm not sure if he'd be ready for a big SEC coaching job.

My top 3 choices would be Lance Leipold at Kansas, Matt Campbell at Iowa State, and Brent Key at Georgia Tech. I really like all of those coaches. If they said no, then I would look at Golesh.
Leipold was hired by Danny at Buffalo.

His star faded a little last year. Let’s see what he does this year.

Christ I completely forgot about Danny White hiring Leipold at Buffalo!

Leipold is fighting a tough uphill battle at Kansas. You think Tennessee was in the wilderness? That program was non-existent! I dont think last year faded his star at all. Its just the nature of that program and how hard it is to win there. They looked pretty good yesterday.

Remember that time when everyone thought UGA would come after D.Dooley after his 6-7 opening campaign.Yeah me too.
Dooley to UGA
Butch to Michigan
Pruitt to Bama
Heupel to OU
I don't recall chatter about Kiffin leaving prior to that late night press conference.

Nothing new under the Sun. We are a paranoid lot.

One thing I never considered was the effect NIL and paying players would have on Head Coaching. The market for HCs is tighter and fewer programs can pay top dollar for both players and coaches.

With Oklahoma also being in the SEC, I think there is a much less chance of the likely 0% chance of him leaving here to coach for Oklahoma.

1. HIS AD is here. You don’t leave comfort and security in who directly decides your fate for a place that still heavily involves the guy that fired you when his brother was garbage, not you.

2. He doesn’t have positive emotional ties there. As said above he played two seasons only, probably went back to coach thinking it would be a place to possibly eventually take over only to have that destroyed by Stoops. He’d have to swallow that and smile at that guy at every major event they hold.

3 The path to success is actually harder at OU now that it’s in the SEC than it would be at TN. TN is a more national brand, it’s easier to recruit to, it’s a better place to live, it’s a better place to work.

Earlier this week Hubbs from VQ implied an extension is coming for Heupel
As my kids say, “that tracks”. He did get us into the playoffs and Danny White is no dummy. Good recruiting, building the personnel in the trenches and the players respond to Heup. Probably add three years on top of what they’ve already done. Don’t remember without looking.

The mere thought of or discussion of Coach Josh Heupel being poached by Oklahoma or anyone else makes Rick Smith (his Jimmy Sexton) drool all over his Turnbull shirt and Armani suit.

However, if we lose to GA then OU in Neyland, the discussion here may turn to "maybe we can get Venables and give them Heupel."

Because VN is as collectively emotionally stable as a 13yo girl who just found out she smiled at her current crush with a booger hanging out of her nose. Total meltdown, occasionally with mustard, is what we do best here.

Is it kickoff yet? Because I need to start day drinking to deal with this.

I would think for OU to get Heupel they would have to hire Danny White first. Heupel would need someone he could trust to run that AD after the season experience he had there.
