I grew up in Knoxville in the late 80's and as far as recruiting services go I really don't remeber any other than Max Emfinger and the reason I remember him is that he had Leroy Thompson as the #2 running back in the country only behind a kid named Emmitt Smith out of Pensacola FL. now come UT's class of 94 which by now max preps and a few others had come to be said this could be the best class ever but we missed out on the nations #1 tight end Rufus French we loaded up that year and then the next year we hit a slow note we lost alot on signing day including some bastard named Derrick Chambers who had been committed to us for 1.5 months if he ever made pro I don't recall.

I remember all of that.

This was one of those 'stream of consciousness' posts where what ever happens to be running through your mind just dribbles down onto the keyboard and out into cyberspace. More appropriate for Twitter.

I wonder how coaches stayed on top of recruits without all of the film and recruiting services. It just seemed so limited with regard to resources then.

Hey, you left out Forrest "Gump" Davis, who was an Alabama Bubba Homer that put out the recruiting magazine.
