the Vols would have went to Berkeley and Gainesville and came out with wins under a different head coach? Honestly, I think you guys are overlooking the fact that your two losses are against teams that are currently #3 and #6 in the country and on the road against schools with big home field advantages. 9 straight at home for Cal and 18 straight for the Gators...Your head coach is not out there on the field. Instead of wanting him fired so bad, maybe you guys should simply realize that the team simply isn't better than the teams which are 3rd and 6th in the country right now and it is no one's fault.

Boise State beat Oklahoma in a BCS bowl last year. Do you really think that the talent level and coaching level were that different from both those schools or was it that Boise State came to play and try and take Oklahoma to the cleaners??

I don't think we would have looked like it was the first time our players had stepped on a football field. I don't think we would have given up four non-offensive TD's in those games. I don't think our defense would tackled like women.

And how close were those 2 games?

I can't believe a Cal fan compared the Bears home field advantage to the Swamp.

We wouldn't have beaten Florida with Meyer on the other sideline. We would have beaten Cal with a good coach. Don't try to put Cal in the same argument with Florida. Cal isn't the 6th best team in the country, and they won't finish there at the end of the year.

Cal is a good team, but they aren't the 6th best team in the nation. I respect their speed on offense but their defense needs some work before they can be considered a top 10 team.

We may have lost both games even with a different coaching staff, but we shouldn't have been blown out in either game.

If the recruiting ranking services are even slightly accurate we have one of the top 10 most talented group of players in the country, and yet we've been performing like a middle of the pack team. According to Scout.com in the last five years we've had classes ranked 1,4,7,9 & 24 nationally.

Good responses all. I would only add that the other reason we're all ticked is that our expectations are to be in that mix of top 5 teams. Clearly we are nowhere near that - heck won't even make the ESPN scroll at the rate we're going! BTW, having watched both games, I have to say that if Cal is a for-real #6 (which I personally doubt), there is a HUGE drop-off from 3 to 6! But hey, you're at least in the mix to talk about it and we're left to discuss coaching changes - ugh!

sometimes you have to blame players. i mean i find it hard to really blame a coach when a talented player at this level tackles the way we tackled in the cal game, or bites on the first move by a returner and gets out of his lane.

But someone made the point that this has been going on for years. I think there are clearly some good qualities about our coaching staff - but we have lacked a certain level of discipline for years now. and that can easily be the difference between 1-2 and 3-0 this year.

At the end of the day we got embarrassed at Florida, even the gator fans I was with quit talking smack. It has to come back to the coaching staff, thank god for Ark. St. coming to town

But I tend to agree with the sentiment behind your post. I admit to having been a "fulmerite" in the past. I am now officially on the fence waiting to see how this season turns out. My glass is half full but if I keep having to take soooo many big sips each week....it won't be for long.

surely you aren't comparing Berkley, CA to Gainesville, FL? if so, i suggest a trip down there so you may be set straight on that issue.
