Just listened to this interview regarding the Luchs article.

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?callsign=ESPNRADIO&id=5680322&autoplay=1http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?callsign=ESPNRADIO&id=5680322&autoplay=1

Herbstreit says at least several times that he has never seen anything like what Luchs describes. REALLY? I personally find that to be a self serving and absurd claim for someone who's supposed to the "the voice" of college football.

What do you guys think?

He was never good enough to be approached by agents, so I believe him.

who else was on the team with kirk? any big names? i don't remember kirk's team that much, besides do you think they would have told kirk they were getting paid? people tend to want to keep stuff like this quiet, duh!

If it's true, he should have talked about it before now, which means he can't be taken seriously as a college football voice. If it's not true, then he can't be taken seriously as a college football voice. Either way, it just confirms what most of us already know: the job of talking former player is reserved for speaking in cliche soundbytes which rarely relate real life or even football.

He wears too much make up to be taken seriously.

No, Spencer Tillman wears too much makeup. Looks like a damn girl.

But, to answer the question, no. I don't every believe anything Herbstreit says. That whole crew is full of a bunch of frontrunner-loving bafoons.

no I don't believe it at all. If it is true then he didn't spend much time on campus

Not to pile on ol' Herbie, but I just saw this article..... what a stand-up guy. I had no idea!

Columbus man saddened, overjoyed by wife’s affair with Kirk Herbstreit 82 Sluggo Win

First off, if that article is true, my God that guy has problems...

Secondly, you know how these ESPN guys are. They don't stray from the company line! Guys, you have to understand, they are paid (very handsomely) to cover the sports and not have their own opinions. Herbstreit is one of ESPN's most notable commentators. His opinion becomes ESPN's opinion, and if he starts talking about stuff like that it looks like ESPN is supporting this kind of stuff. He simply can't speak about it.

If you asked Herbstreit about this situation the day after he leaves ESPN, you will get an entirely different story, I guarantee it.

Kirk's '92 team (his Senior year), was stacked with future NFLers, including:

Eddie George
Joey Galloway
Korey Stringer (Vikings)
Robert Smith (Vikings)
Lorenzo Styles (Falcons, Rams)
Steve Tovar (Browns, Ravens, Jets)
Craig Powell (Bengals)
Dan Wilkinson (Bengals)
Chris Sanders (Titans)
Brian Stablien (Colts)
Roger Harper (Falcons, Cowboys)

Players do NOT keep that kind of stuff quiet, which is part of the point of the article -- it may be quiet to the outside world, but these kids talk to each other about where to go for the $$.

I used to really Herbie and thought he did a great job but ever since they switched him to calling those saturday night games and ever since he "broke" the story about Les Miles going to michigan I havent really been a fan.

I've never put any stock in Kirk-streit.
ESPN (Gameday) might as well be called BIG 10 Gameday Network. Kirk Ohio State-Desmond Howard-Michigan. Rarely watch it anymore. Oregon would be number one if they had an ESPN announcer constantly touting them.

I didn't find the Luchs article to be very believable. Especially at the end when he said the reason he came out with the story is b/c of his daughters. I think he came out with the story to make money and to get back at people b/c he failed in the business. Also, his current profession of commercial real estate is in the tank

Anyone who has any doubt about this actually happening here is a little self test:

1. Go on rivals and find a highly touted recruit from an extremely poor area.
2. Do some research on the player. Read what he says about his family and try and find out if he has rich relatives/friends.
3. Walk into the campus cafeteria of what ever college he chooses. Take a minute to look at a few things such as a brand new iphone, necklaces with diamonds, the newest rarest athletic shoes (that our not for his sport or of the brand that sponsor his school)
4. Finally, go out to the parking lot and see what car he is driving.
5. Do this about 5 times I will be thounsands of dollars that at least one will have suddenly jumped into the "riches" world just two short years after he ditched his "rags".
6. If that doesn't work just ask 20 of them, guarantee one tells you the truth.
