Do we ever throw the quick slant?

We tried a couple of times. I think one was pretty well defended, and JG was way off on another. I still don't think we use the middle of the field.

We do, but that is not JG's forte. Most of these throws are behind the zone where the throw needs to be. JG's forte is the 30-35 sideline pass. His 2nd best pass is the 10-15 yard pass to the middle of the field. Chaney doesn't seem to understand this and calls slants and 20-25 yards passes across the middle on 3rd downs. Well, that is when he doesn't try to run the ball on 3rd and 8.

The problem is JG sits and waits on the CBs to basically bear hug the receiver prior to throwing on slants and comebacks. Never throws his receiver open. The majority of his passes are vertical routes or routes where the receiver has to come back to the ball or sit in the middle of a zone coverage. He never throws to a streaking receiver.

Not enough in practice apparently since our defense in a game acts as if they've never seen such a trick play.
