Correct me if I’m wrong, but I noticed that Keon and Springer our only guys that can drive and make something happen.
Fulky posts up a lot.
Pons seems like a stare down shooter turn around guy.
Vescovi and Bailey are a safer bet to hit the 3 than make a layup
JJJ is like Pons but with better handle and quicker.
Is this the reason why we have these terrible offensive droughts?
Should Springer and Keon always play at same time? What’s our rotation during the droughts?

Pretty much.

SV drives and turns it over
Bailey drives and somehow bricks a layup

Keon and Springer are the only 2 imo

JJJ should drive more often and be more agressive offensively in all areas......But he wont.

He plays like the younger kid that got picked to play a pickup game with boys much older because of his size. Scared he might hurt someone's feelings.

Only Springer, Johnson, and sometimes JJJ have the quickness to consistently get to the paint. Unfortunately, none of the three consistently finish at the rim. They all three show glimpses, but they aren't consistent. So, Springer settles for the pull-up jumper, perhaps due to a lack of athleticism and slow lift, Keon struggles thru contact due to a lack of strength, and JJJ struggles due to a lack of confidence.

It's one way to put defenses on their heels a bit instead of letting them push us out to the half court line. Our front court could do a little more to help our back court out tho. For an undersized but athletic front court group, we seem awfully sedentary at times.

I totally agree with all 3 of those assessments. Being Freshmen and the crazy off season those 2 get a semi-pass but JJJ a sophomore is a very passive 5 star and does not display a go to guy attitude. Great guy and teammate but plays like a role player that looks up to all of his teammates and just glad to be out there. Maybe his Senior year he will feel more like it's his team and show his Diamonds, I feel he has all the tools.

He's the typical 5 star UT signs. We've seen it before. One game they'll look like a lottery pick and you think the light has finally come on for them, but then they retreat into their shells. It goes on for 4 years then they'll go overseas to play. JJJ doesn't seem to have that fire on the court. Not a guy who can lead a team. Not saying he's soft, but I'm having a tough time coming up with a better descriptor.

I had high hopes for this team coming into the season.
Now not so much.
After 55 years of being a fan, I've been conditioned to have no expectations for UT in any sport. Well, that's not exactly true. I know it's the kiss of death to have high hopes for a UT team going into a season. I know exactly how things will go.

So from what you see and say is we lack any real variety on offensive. Which means any team we play that has a reasonable defense and GOOD offensive ability, fair size and muscle are going to give us lots of trouble. That is teams like Ala., Miss., like many more teams we are going to see the rest of the season. For what it's worth, I agree with you 100%. The way we played against Ole Miss is telling. Out muscled, in many transitions out run and by being/looking intimidated most of the second half for sure.

Not much the last few games, but earlier in the season Bailey demonstrated the ability to drive the lane. He seems to currently be in some kind of midseason funk and his entire game has regressed. IMO

Are you referring to 5*’s prior to the CRB era as JJJ was the first of the 3 5*’s CRB signed. The 2 freshmen don’t appear to be on an overseas track at this point, maybe JJJ unless he continues to improve

We really don't have anyone who is efficient at driving the lane. We don't have a real point guard. We have one coming in next year who will solve that problem. What we really need in a true 5 who can rebound, fill the lane, block shots, hit lay ups, and run the floor.

Right behind at 53 years a fan and I can relate to your point. Put an asterisk by Pat Summitt. Up until the end, Pat's program was a model of consistency and, as a body of work, met or exceeded my expectations, in particular, that 1997 national championship team.

I think it falls right in line with the increase in competition.

I think the pace of play is killing this team. Springer, Johnson, Bailey, even JJJ are suited to race like greyhounds with their skills. They’re all so much better in the open court. I’m not sure what happened to slow us to this pace.

When Chandler comes in next season, he should be able to give Johnson and Springer easier looks and I think Tennessee would be a lot better if both came back next season and if I was an NBA general manager, I would suggest that they benefit playing with a lightning quick point guard like Chandler.

Next year's starting lineup?

1. Chandler/Vescovi
2. Bailey/Meshak (sorry for spelling)
3. JJJ/Gaines
4. ON/Walker
5. Fulky/Walker

Does this look about right?
