to complain? Being new to the board I am suprised at the all for the Vols or you are somehow not a true fan if you are critical.

I am a 1968 grad of UT and have a deep love for the university. Almost every sucess I have had in life can be traced to the education and influence the university gave me. In 1966 my family experienced financial problems and the university arranged scholarships and a job with the athletic department to allow me to continue my education. I have tried to pay the university back by being a contributor to the athletic and general scholarship funds for over 20 years. The VASF license plates are proudly displayed on my vehicles.

The university is much more than athletics. That being said our young men, women, and coaching staffs represent UT to the majority of the country. When we have success on the playing fields enrollment and contributions increase substantially. Right or wrong the performance of our football team has hurt the university.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with all of our present football coaching staff. They are all fine men who truly care about the university and want to win as much as any fan. I take no pleasure in questioning if they can in todays environment.

I do not want a repeat of the Majors situation. It caused long time friends to choose sides and damage relationships. I am afraid we heading the same way with coach Fulmer.

I would never withhold my contributions or boycott the games I attend. I do reserve the right to be critical of any aspect of the universities programs. I don't expect us to win national championships each year but the effort in the last 30games is not acceptable. The embarrassment saturday has been in the making for the past 5 years. This must change. If the present coaching staff is unable to accomplish the turn around it is time to replace them. I truly believe UT is at a crossroads that will affect the university long after I and the present coaching staff are gone.

I will always be a loyal Vol, but I understand the frustration of the fans. I can only hope the future is brighter for all Vols

Do fans have the right to complain?.....YES! It has nothing to do with if you love the VOLS or not...which, I do love them dearly.

I am the band director I am today due to Dr. WJ Julian and have given over 25 years to the band scholarship fund since I receive one when I was there. I believe in giving to the University, but I also have the right to say something when things are not going well....and right now, they are not.

Agreed. The simple fact of the matter is that UT football is not only tradition and pride, it is a product. We are the consumers of that product, and without us, the product is worth nothing. Every professional and "elite/major" collegiate program knows this, and that is why they must listen when we talk ... and why we as fans must speak out.

I have no problem with complaints about how the program is going, I've got a list as long as my arm, my problem is all the cheap shots about wieght and all the crap being slung about Summit and Pearl, give me a break, makes us look worse than Bammers.

Not only do you have the right to complain but I would say that, for the sake of the university and future students like yourself in 1968, you have a duty to complain.

agreed, having an intelligent, informed opinion about the matter is one thing. all the other stuff, just makes the originator of those thoughts look stupid.

i see a picture of Mike Hamilton in place of Uncle Sam in that infamous poster.:p

and to the originator of the thread....you are correct. and i think the saddest thing of all is that there were so many hoping the CPF would/could/should be the guy that turned it around. just very disappointing.

I wonder how many pages the apology will be if things keep going like they have so far:question:....

Good post. I feel this is going the way of the Majors situation. I fear there may be a long dark road for us to travel before we see the light. A coaching change is coming, maybe not this year, but within the next three years. I just hope we don't end up hiring and firing coaches like Bama has done recently. It will take sound judgement and excellent timing for us to aquire a quality coach. I hope we can remain patient and diligent in this process as it will shape the perception of our university for years to come.

Shoot, would we be fans if we didn't complain about something?

I'm still debating on whether or not to send an e-mail to Mike Hamilton. Considering I'm neither an alum (or even student) nor a donor (and I was going to admit those facts in said e-mail), would he even care what I had to say?

If you ever buy merchandise, watch games on TV, or purchase tickets tha makes you a consumer. Thus, it's Hamilton's duty to listen.

Good post and right on the money. Being critical has nothing to do with loyalty, passion, or love of our program, nor should it be used as a measuring stick for what makes one a "true fan."

Hat makes an excellent point with the consumer angle. The customer is always right...:dance2:
