I have now decided that I need to marry a woman who works at the DMV. If I did that, I would probably only have to go two times in one day. That would be sweet.

In Columbia, S.C., they had the DMV on one side of town (which had a limited number of parking spaces and they towed away violators, so I had to find a spot about a block away) and the county register (place to buy tags) downtown. I swear, I went to the DMV and waited 2 hrs, then was told I couldn't buy county tags at this particular DMV location (they had stopped selling them several months prior) and they wouldn't give me plates unless I had tags. I go to the county building downtown and have to go to the county tax accessor or whatever (in SC, they make you pay a property tax on your vehicle based on bluebook value) and wait in that line to get the amount I owe in prop. tax for the car (about an hour wait). You would think I could pay it right then and there, right? No, you have to go to the clerk's office or some bureacratic office (luckily in the same building) and actually pay your county tax there. Once I wait in line for about an hour & a half or so, I get me tags and receipt and go back to my car. Of course, I have a parking tix on my windshield when I get back. Since the city office was on my way back to the DMV, I figured I would just pay the stupid ticket and get that over with (plus it was a little past lunchtime). Well, the city clerk goes to lunch also, and nobody is there for me to pay my ticket to. I drive back to the DMV. :banghead2: Another long 2 hour wait in line to show the gal behind the counter that I had paid my taxes and had my county tag. By this time, It was getting close to 5:00, and I was determined to get this parking ticket paid and be done with it. Drive back downtown through rush hour traffic and barely make it back to pay. In total, I went to 3 gov't buildings, 4 gov't offices (DMV, county tax office, county clerk, and city clerk) and didn't get home until dusk. Longest day of my life. But the sad part is, there were actually people still at the DMV that had been there when I had arrived earlier that morning.
