As a friend and former HS teammate of EJAW I'd like to step in and dismiss some of these allegations of him being a horrible kid. He's a good person if you get to know him and if he was really dismissed for smoking marijuana then he made a mistake. Personally I dont care what people do as long as they dont harm anyone else while doing it. I never been a fan of alcohol but personally I use marijuana on occasions.
Does that make me a bad person too? I've never been to jail, never assaulted anyone, hell I dont even have a speeding ticket, im in college too. Aside from that marijuana is a norm for certain people in certain areas, sadly enough its easy to become a product of your environment especially growing up here in the triad of NC which consists our larger cities such as Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point.
It's sad that a coach wouldn't like to help students get over their problems...all this money supplied for strength & conditioning coaches but there is no money to enroll users into a rehabilitation program? IMO that should have been an option for a first time offense.
And for those who think marijuana decreases your physical athletic ability --->
Ricky Williams openly admitted he was a marijuana user and during the 2000-2003 seasons he was arguably the best back in the league. Im pretty sure he was smoking at Texas too, still a Heisman winner and a good person(just a weirdo). There are plenty of crimes to commit that are worse than smoking. Maybe just maybe CLK was venting, he does have a loser mentality from his Oakland days...as a coach he should know the importance of intervening on someones life, these kids are straight out of high school not the grown men of the NFL, harsh punishment is not always the best option.
For those who support EJAW im pretty sure he'd thank you guys for the support even though he saddened he cannot help his program excel.
For those who dont support him and dismiss him as a immoral individual, he will easily get past the criticism of the ignorant. Considering he was the #1 Recruit in NC, he will be earning an education and playing football for somebody, somewhere. I hope this ordeal at Knoxville will help him become a stronger person mentally and help him get his life on the right path.
