I am a fourth year medical student currently on traveling rotations from month to month at various hospitals. On my last rotation one of the third year residents turned out to be a former defensive tackle at UF, who played from 2003-2007 (about the same time I was at UT). We got to talking football, and I brought up the D. Rogers situation. He stated it was no secret that half of the Gator team was stoned while standing on the sidelines at most games while he was there (both under Zook and Meyer). Granted, a lot of these players were unlikely to see the field, but it still was dumbfounding information. He went on to say that it shows a lot of class on Dooley's part to take the high road (no pun intended) like he has, but he's not playing by the same rules that a lot of the other guys are.
One more thing: he said Neyland was the most impressive and intimidating away stadium he ever played in. "It just keeps going up", he said. :)

It seems like almost everyone gets high these days. Seems the lawmakers would eventually begin to overlook it more. (Im not saying its right.) :cool2:

We need to follow Dooley's plan but we also need to understand the best athletes will probably go elsewhere where they can get away with being stoned all day. It will be a trade off. It's called "moral character". If we want that on our team, we will have to take all that goes with it. No not every 5 star is a stoner but in general the best athletes will want the loosest system to play their 3 years at before they move on to the NFL (so they think).

I, for one, appreciate the story. It's actually very plausible. But, it goes two ways, too. I'm sure there are a few scrub players on UT's sidelines that fall into the same category. It's a fact of collegiate sports now and college life in general. Sad, but true.

exactly how loose are things in tuskaloser these days?

Good question. We will probably hear in due time. Look at FL of 5-10 years ago. Eventually it seems like it all comes crashing down. Is Saban doing it differently? I sure don't know.

The NCAA needs to set policies to clean this up instead of enabling it. If they would create a level playing ground then we could eliminate the thug factor. The NCAA needs to create a third party drug testing agency that all programs must subscribe to and they regulate who is eligible or ineligible. The coaches and schools need to to be taken out of the decision making process. That would make the players directly responsible to the NCAA.

The rest of the world and espn would love to dethrone the sec they are no doubt looking. Due to the fact usc, and the rest of the darlings can't beat a mediocre sec team.

I don't think the thinking of "Star Athletes want to go to a loose system so they can get high" has a lot of credibility. I suspect it's less addicting than chewing tobacco. If you flunk a drug test for pot, it's just not that hard to drink beer instead of getting stoned. I think a lot of issues arise rather from shooting up on testosterone to enhance one's athletic capabilities. It makes you more aggressive and I think that is a factor when you see a team with a lot of off the field fighting incidents. LOL...so if they are on testosterone, they need to get stoned to chill out instead of fighting.

Good ideal .

I guess that just goes to show that talent wins no matter what. Great to know Tennessee was getting the crap beat out of them by a bunch of stoned players. I guess only thing that might make that a little better is if our guys were just as stoned as they were.

Based on the number of UT players booted for substance abuse we could put together an All-Stoned Team that would include such notables as:

D. Rogers WR
J. Jackson SS
L. Coker RB

I say let the man smoke if he wants. Im tired of losing and want to see us win some ball games. Heck, let him burn one on the sideline for all I care(JK). We are in no position to kick off a 5* stud who is our best and most experienced playmaker on offense and still plan on having a winning season. And Dooley knows this

from what i can gather, if your a star linebacker you can beat the mess outta your girlfriend in the MceeD's parking lot (several times) and never miss a snap. As long as her dad is a big time booster. TIFWIW
