I'd never heard of the thing but Tennessee placed seventh. This short blurb was in the Tennessean...

Tennessee finished seventh and Vanderbilt 33rd out of 289 Division I programs in the 2006-07 U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup standings. UT's rank was its highest ever, while Vandy's was its second best. The Director's Cup standings combine points awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women's and 10 men's.

The teams ahead of UT, in order, were Stanford, UCLA, North Carolina, Michigan, Southern Cal and Florida.

Other locals were MTSU (100th), Belmont (T-182nd), Tennessee Tech (T-213th) and Austin Peay (T-248th).

Actually droski was bragging about the director's cup rankings and how great Cal's overall sports was. Seems Cal finishes no higher than 4th in their own state.:birgits_giggle:

Congrats to all the UT teams!

i could care less about the directors cup, but others said we sucked in all sports and that is obviously not true.

Nobody gives a damn about swimming, interior design, or culinary arts. In the two sports that actually matter, you do suck.

a) I agree other sports are pointless, b) we don't suck at football and have a half decent basketball tradition (certainly better than UT).

I'll give you the Pete Newell years. Without those, your basketball team is really as worthless as your football program.
