At the moment, for HD support, DirecTV will be your best choice.

Depends case to case though. My house is near a meeting point for the Willamette and Columbia rivers, which means winds regularly kick up to 40mph in my neighborhood. Not to mention the Oregon winters, and the abundance of tall trees. I'd lose a DirecTV signal all the time, but that's my case.

Basically, to choose which TV service is the best, figure out what you're using it for (HD, digital, basic cable) and keep your local environment in mind.

i've heard terrible stories about Direct TV and it's signal going out for some odd reasons.......like rain.

i do admit though, the sports package and HD package are attractive....but not sure when all is said and done i'd actually save a buck or two on the bill.....

but every time i get one of those special offers in the mail about direct tv, it tempts me, oh it tempts me....

Care to support that statement? Not putting it down, just want to see the facts.
I personally use all three major national providers. I have Comcast at home, DirecTV in the break room at work, and Dish Network at a friend'se house I am frequently at.

At this exact moment, the HD support for all three is roughly the same, but satellite providers are setting up to expand greatly. Right now Comcast has 50-ish, and I have all of them. A decent selection of HD On Demand, too. DirecTV is right there, too. DirecTV is projecting to soon have around 150 HD channels.

Of course, by 2009, it won't matter since all TV channels will be required to have an HD output.

Like I said, plusses and minuses. I'd much rather have DirecTV at the moment because of my preferences for programming, and a couple years of top-notch HD support. But the weather around me doesn't allow for good, consistent reception with a dish.

.

I live out in the middle of BFE and have Direct TV. I will admit that during a bad storm it does go on the fritz. But it does not do so just from rain. Overall, it is rare that I lose my Direct TV service.

I was a long time DTV user at 2 different locations and the rain problem is way over stated.

If a supercell is right over your house, the signal can get blocked. Otherwise, it works fine in the rain. I used it to predict summer thunderstorms. Right before my house was hit with a big T-storm, the picture would go out - 30 seconds later - BOOM.

To put it another way, it was more reliable than cable.

An accurate, factual assessment of the situation.

I had direct tv a long time ago and was watching the Vols and lost about 20min of the game, that sucked. I did have very few issues.

Anything but Comcast, their customer service is terrible.
It's fine here. I've had no problems with their customer service.

And hat, it's entirely dependant on where you're located. Like I said, in my neck of the woods, I can guaran-damn-tee you cable has a more stable signal than satellite. I agree with you that satellite is the way to go in terms of HD service, but not necesarily on all points.

I had Direct TV about 4 years ago, and anytime we would get a storm it would get fuzzy, get stuck and stuff.

I have Bright House Digital Cable now, which is good living here because we tend to get alot of afternoon storms during this time of year.

But DirectTV may be better now than it was...

I have AT&T Dish Network, and have been very satisfied with it over the 4-5 months we've had it now. Better channel selection than Comcast, more local sports, and the price isn't even comparable.

I've only had one issue, and that was in the middle of a severe thunderstorm last saturday, where the signal was out for around an hour, but other than that, no problems.
