I will be in Knoxville for the UCLA game. Any recommendations on great places to eat. I prefer places with local flavor and would love to find a good barbecue place.

Thanks.

Calhouns is awful...but to each their own.

I wish that I could recommend the Riverside Tavern, but they have closed. If you like steaks the Chop House is fantastic, but it is a chain, so it won't be anything that is exclusive to Knoxville. If you are willing to drive abit further check out Ye Olde Steakhouse on the Chapman Hwy. It's about 20 minutes out of town, just cross the bridge and it will be on your left side after 7 or so miles. They may not look like much from the outside, but they have great steaks - Ye Olde Steak House - 577-9328 - Knoxville, TN.

The Orangery is considered by most to be the mecca of "Fine Dining" in K-Town, never been there myself but I've heard nothing but great things. The Orangery Restaurant| fine dining| French Cuisine| Knoxville Tennessee| international cuisine| wines| upscale| high end dining

If you want something that is abit of a staple for the college crowd, yet has some fantastic food....really has everything from simple burgers to a very good prime rib, I'd suggest The Copper Cellar on the strip. I used to go there on Wednesday's for $3.99 burgers. Copper Cellar

To be honest, I never found a great BBQ place while I was living there...I guess I was used to the stuff you find in Memphis. There is a Corky's on Kingston Pike, but beyond that I never found much.

Corky's has been closed for a few years.

The Butcher Shop is another place that has good steaks.

I've also heard good things about Sweet P's BBQ, but it would probably be too out of the way for someone that's never been to Knoxville.

If it were me, I'd be going to Calhoun's. Copper Cellar is also good, when my fiancee and I first started dating, she was working as a hostess there, so I may have a slight bias on good memories of the place, but the food is good. Those two are both owned by the same parent company, as is Smoky Mountain Brewery, which has a location out by Turkey Creek. All of them serve the Smoky Mountain Brewery beers though, and there's something for every type of beer drinker amongst their selection, and I haven't had one that I didn't like yet. (Though admittedly, I will likely never try Mountain Light, which seems to be their Bud Light/Miller Lite type beer, because I generally like beers that have a little more to them.)

Barley's in the Old City is another pretty good place. Pizza there is quite good, but not spectacular, but the beer selection is fantastic.

Krystal's should always be a part of the Tennessee game day experience whether it be pre-game or for the 2 am munchies. You'll remember the food long after you've consumed it.:)

If you are going to be eating in town on game day...anywhere that has a short line. :)

If you are here a few days before, there have been several great suggestions made.

OCI Burger, fools!

Old College Inn; great college bar food if that is what you are looking for.

Ye Olde Steakhouse, Copper Cellar, and Preservation Pub on Market Square are great bets as well.

This is a new place I have been wanting to try. The owner has a great pedigree from Regas and Bistro on the Tracks; two of KnoxVegas' historically finer establishments. The menu makes my mouth water.

Calhoun's is good if you want BBQ or ribs, other than that, it's not all that great. If you want something besides BBQ, Litton's in North Knoxville is a K-town tradition, best burgers in town. Cool place to visit too. Chesepeake's downtown has good seafood but a bit overpriced. Ye Olde Steakhouse is definitely a good option if you want a steak.
