We all (including myself) went all mob mentality on a guy tonight. You should take an honest look at the facts. The man did a heck of a job at Rutgers. Quit bending the facts.
National media is letting the fan base have it, but honestly? I really do not care. Normally, I am embarrassed by the antics of our redneck mattress burners, but this is the one time I am happily on their side. I like to think I have been fairly level headed over the reality of this brief, but important, coaching search. I would have been happy with any of Mullen, Frost, or Campbell. I could have stomached a Miles, Sumlin, or even Kiffin. I never deluded myself with the Grumors or any idea of Patterson or Peterson. But from the moment I first heard his name mentioned, I have been a staunch opponent of even the slightest notion of Greg Schiano. Not just because I am not a fan of him as a coach, but because of his blatantly obvious baggage. It is just utterly unfathomable to me how Currie thought this was a good road to take.
I'm not so forward as to say I don't think he survives this, but good God man, you couldn't ask for a worse start.
This is a case of perception. Whether he knew or not is inconsequential. Currie couldve announced any other coach today and would not have had that reaction. But he picks the one with that particular baggage, unreal. Oh, and it doesnt help he is also perceived by most as a so-so coach. Let him build his record at another Rutgers-type school. Although we arent far from being a Rutgers-type school.
He was involved in a program that turned their heads to pedophiles.
He was BARELY over .500 at Rutgers.
He was just over .300 at Tampa Bay.
Players hated him as a bully. Fans thought he was aloof and did not communicate.
His baggage is one thing. His coaching is another. His relationship with fans/players is the 3rd strike. 3 strikes and OUT.
