keep his aces in his pocket to not show his hand to Florida??? I haven't had a chance to watch the replay of WVU. It didn't appear as though UT tryed to confuse WVU much with schemes or call blitzes much. Yes, I am being an optimist. I am hoping that is the case. I hope UT held back on O too. We will see in less than 16 days. Let's hope Pruitt did and UT can still win at least 3 games in the SEC and make a bowl. Losing Kennedy hurt UT badly. Let's hope the OL and DL can improve a ton in 16 days!

Edit to OP, nowhere above did I say Pruitt was PLAYING TO LOSE!!! I know that is not him. Maybe the D isn't ready for Pruitt to scheme and stunt the way he wants.

I think we have this thread every season.

Well, excuse me, this is a new coach and a different year. As I stated, I am an optimist. Shoop's first game in 2016 vs FL had a D that looked different than it did prior to the FL game. I am trying to be optimistic, not delusional. I am sure most of you will think the later. That is ok. Given UT's history the last decade, it is hard to see a glass as half full.

Let's hope the OL and DL improves a ton in 2 days.

You can still be optimistic. We don't have the type of players Pruitt wants yet but they're installing new schemes on both sides of the ball.
They weren't holding anything back but our players will get better at their new roles. They will look better as we go. Not saying great but better.

No offense meant to the op but its always fun to watch all these excuse thread develop after a loss. Difficult to accept the fact that we are just not good i guess. Maybe soon most will realize we are not the Tennessee of old anymore and it will take several years of winning 9-12 games before we are.

No one is making excuses for UT losing by 26 in a game all VOL fans wanted to win!!! I don't lose anything should the VOLS go 4-8 again. I was curious to see if anyone thought UT played vanilla on D. EVERYONE KNOWS UT isn't the same team they were in the late 80's to mid 00's. I am not delusional. If you don't have anything positive to say, maybe you shouldn't say anything at all. This board and this world is cynical enough as it is. A big no or hell no would have made your point!

I don't see how throwing a game as important as WVU was can even remotely be considered. All we have is vanilla right now and I don't see any chocolate sauce anywhere.

No. By Pruitt's own account yesterday he did say that they tried a lots of schemes to put pressure on Grier. However, per him, Grier was able to get the ball out in time and was very accurate with his passes. Whenever they got to him he evaded it nicely.
We all saw that in the game too. The DL could not pressure much and outside linebackers were missing all game.

Why would you even think he would? You honestly think he thought about "not showing his hand" to Florida 3 games later? What sense would that make? He played vanilla D on purpose and took a beating against WVU, just to "fool" Florida?

Smh.

If he purposedly played vanilla D against WVU, then I'm pretty sure his stock would plummet immediately with the fanbase.

Thanks for the input. I did see the article. I am hoping Pruitt does have some other schemes to use that can be taught before the FL game. I am hoping all the D schemes haven't been installed or learned. I should have worded my OP differently. I am hoping UT was vanilla (due to it being necessary, not by choice) on D compared to what Pruitt can do in the future once all of the schemes are learned by all of the D players!!!

I’m sure that’s it. Brilliant strategy.

Florida should try to counter Pruitt by making its players play with their shoes on the wrong feet for the next two weeks. This will make them look slower and less coordinated, and then when the UT game rolls around, boom, put the shoes on the right feet and off you go.

Strategery.
