I can't find a direct quote from Peyton saying Schiano would be a good hire. I can only find where Herbstreit claims he did. If there a link that quoted Manning as saying he was fully in on Schiano or just OK?

Several VFL's reported they got a call from Peyton impressing on them how great of a hire Schiano is and that he could use their support. This was reported through social media as well as some local radio shows, so take it for what it's worth.

Don't know that we will know any time soon; nor whether he boosted Currie over Phil to AD seat.

Not sure I even want to know.

Manning works behind the scenes so you may not find a link. I believe Manning wanted what Haslam wanted.

Not sure if true but word is that the Manning's want an NFL franchise and are backing the haslams for support. Can't recall where I read it but another indicated Manning was hyping schiano in NYC this week and didn't mince words over how UT handled the situation.

I'd really like to see that report sourced and confirmed. Because if so......boy that's not going to be a pretty site for PM and the Haslams.

Does anyone think Peyton Manning knows the difference between a good coach and a bad one? There are only 3 people Peyton has ever listened to his entire life - his Mom, his Dad & David Cutcliffe.

So the real question here is not - did Peyton support Schiano? The question is why the heck anyone would ask him for his opinion or listen to his opinion in the first place.

A'ight, using the phrase 'behind the scenes' in a discussion about Schiano ain't right.

Haslam can hire Schiano to coach the Browns if he likes him that much.

Watch what happens in Cleveland that will tell you all you need to know. It has nothing to do with what he thought was best but everything to do with him and his family getting part of a NFL team.

Why is this even being discussed?

Peyton supported whatever gets him ownership of a team. It’s a shame he has to rely on that family, and doesn’t have the confidence to do it on his own.

From all the rumors, it sounds like Peyton supported the Haslams and whoever they wanted he was on board with.

At this point I'm going to assume he didn't and put this crap in my Vol memories of Butch, Dooley, and Tyndall.

I stay far less angry this way.

Its a shame that Peyton has aligned himself with a looser.

No one noticed but they said on 104.5 that no one named Haslam was at the press conference. he is usually there when a football coach is introduced. The coup must have been successful.

Thanks all for the rational discourse. I honestly didn't know if there was a direct link to something out there. My thoughts are that he was asked and felt like he had to answer in the affirmative or risk some sort of exposure in his business. Much like some of the opines on why CJP said we had facilities like he had never seen before. Just a politically correct answer.
