Did Joe Paterno just rip Tennessee?

Did anyone else just hear that interview during halftime of the Outback Bowl? CUM said he sent an application to Penn State way back when but was turned down due to lack of experience. Joe then proceeded to say something like "you could go coach with those guys at Tennessee". Wtf Joe?!

Did I hear that wrong or something?

I'm sitting here watching the Outback Bowl and during halftime they played a taped interview with both coaches sitting down. Urban Meyer said something like when he was a grad. assistant he sent letters to others schools trying to move up in the chain and they would send letters back saying that he didn't have enough experience. Then Jon Gruden says that he sent a letter to Joe Pa and he never got a letter back. Joe Pa then says that's caused he worked for those Tennessee guys. I don't know why he meant by it, but it sorta chapped my a$$ if you know what I mean.

Lol I just posted a thread about the same thing. He said something like "cause you worked for those Tennessee guys". I don't know exactly what he meant by it but it sorta pissed me off.

He wasn't ripping us at all. I actually took it as a compliment, showing Gruden coached here. Good publicity IMO

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing him as head coach of the Titans. His fiery attitude would fit in great here. We need a coach like that.

All three (Meyer, Paterno, Gruden) were having a discussion and Meyer mentioned having sent out a letter to be a GA back in the day. Gruden(who used to be a GA at Tennessee in his first coaching job) made a passing comment about sending one to Paterno and Paterno said "you were working with those guys in Tennessee" He was just ribbing him.

Meyer said he applied for a GA spot on Paterno's staff and was turned down because he lacked exp.
Paterno fired back with a harmless quip aimed at Gruden because he was a UT grad assistance coach-at least that was my take.

That makes sense. I thought he said something about "he could go coach with those guys at Tennessee."

Completely different interpretation.
