Just trying to get a gauge on what everyone thinks. Obviously it's just speculation that he is a TOP candidate but regardless he is still an option until the new DC is announced.

Yeah. He might have been a good coach but I don't think he would be a good hire right now.

On the "bright" side, Dabo might can him... then UT could maybe pick him up as a position coach.

There should be a rule that you cannot hire a defensive cordinator if he allowed 70 points in his last game!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say especially in a bowl game but it had never been done before tonight so NM.

When I turned on Sportscenter and saw the score, no joke this was my face :eek:hmy:

Same. I saw an early bit then switched it to south park reruns with the woman. Checked back in at the end of the third and did a triple take

My wife is a HUGE CU fan....I've told her all year that if Dabo didn't fire Steele it would cost him his job eventually. Sure hope we don't save Dabo's job for him.

I don't form opinions on who the assistant coaches should be. I try to share what I think is happening.

This morning, I don't know if the direction will be what I thought going into last night. If it remains that direction, Dooley / Hart will not get a positive reaction from their fans. That is a pretty easy read..

thing is you still have no knowledge of Clemson's defense (or football if you think all the points scored are on the defense) but are jumping to conclusions after seeing one game. I don't know if Steele is the best choice but it's hard to know why it happened unless you follow Clemson

Damn.

Well...I hope you were wrong last night cause you're 100% correct this morning.

last nights defense was terrible!! i understand it was only one game, BUT CU's defense has looked that way ALL year. It would be a huge disappointment if UT hired him as a DC. And a downgrade from Wilcox. Pay Shannon what he wants, it will be well worth it.

I wouldn't mind him as a LB coach, but that's it.

I said last night if he's fired which I could see him being fired at this point he'd be a steal as an assistant and top recruiter. Even if for a year or 2.

Agreed. Everyone is going to get hung up on the 70 number and 49 at the half, but 21 of those 49 are on the offense. That was one of the most brutal 2nd Quarters I have ever seen. Fumble returned 99 yards for a TD early and then the last two drives end in an INT on your own 30 and a fumble on your 18, each promptly converted into TDs. After that Clemson just mailed it in.

Still, giving up that many points is going to be really hard to sell to this fanbase and I don't think anyone is going to give a rat's that WVU put up similar yardage numbers on LSU's vaunted defense.

They surrendered 34 pts to South Carolina and 37 to NC State and 31 to Georgia Tech all of which they lost the game. They even gave up 27 pts to Wofford, in the 2 wins against VT the first game they only gave up 3 pts and the second game for the championship they gave up 10. We open the season with NC State so I would have to say if UT hires Steele after last nights performance, fan support will take a big hit.

I do think last night's game changed some things from UT's point of view. I have always thought that CRS is a better def. coordinator compared to CKS. It's not because CRS could end up at UT either. Allowing 70 (actually 63) points is completely inexcusable for a FBS football program. Then it makes it even worse because it was a bowl game and CKS had almost a month to prepare and gameplan for WV. Also Coach Holgorsen only runs a handful of plays on offense so that should make it a little easier to identify formations but they still gave up 70. IMO though CKS would be a good hire but CRS would be an amazing hire. Plus CRS's recruiting abilities is a bonus. Which I know it's only one game but considering the facts I just listed it definitely changes things. But his defense struggled all year. That's why Clemson had to make all of those 2nd half comebacks and score the way they did. If Dooley's first choice is CKS I really hope Hart will see all of these things and goes hard after CRS. I don't think we could have hired a better AD than Hart for our situation. I like how aggressive (if we get CRS) he is to get us turned around. Finally we can open up the checkbook to get the best coaches available. If we don't get CRS IMO I would like Hart to make a run at Everett Withers, but I'm pretty sure he signed on with Ohio State.
