Did Chaney and Pittman have interest in Tennessee?

This comment by Tim Irwin yesterday caught my ear on the radio.

"I was very much in favor of doing whatever took to hire a great defensive head coach -- and I think Pruitt could be that guy -- and coupling him, and spending some money, to get an offensive coordinator like Chaney and a line coach like Pittman back in there. And I believe, and I have reasons for believing this, that they would have come."

He doubled down later in the show

"It's over now, but I wish he would have gotten Chaney and Pittman in here with him to help him run the offense."

After the LSU game GA fans were wanting a change on offense. I bet Chaney is gone next year.

Chaney and crew didn't look so hot in the second half of the NC game against CJP's defense....

And those guys definitely DIDN'T look like they had a good answer for LSU's defensive scheme a few weeks back, either.....
And those guys couldn't figure out how to score a TD against Fla from the 1 yard line in Jacksonville...with 7 plays!!!

I'm just not impressed with Chaney at all....old news...but his offense's numbers when Bray was here were just not very good against the better talent in the SEC. We're seeing their ceiling at UGA....and it's NOT elite.

I definitely want to see what Helton and Friend can do with mo better players in their own offensive scheme. And I hope we remember how to run some old fashioned bootlegs with JG under center against KY....

does he have a regular gig on some radio station or was he just a guest? Would love to hear him.

He's on Sports Soundoff on Sunday's during the season with Jimmy Hyams. It's on WNML.

I love listening to him. He tells it like it is and gives a viewpoint from someone who starred and Tennessee and had a long NFL career. I've especially been curious to hear his take on the offensive line since that's obviously his area of expertise.

Tim Irwin was a great Vol. His takes are sometimes hot garbage though. Not always, but sometimes.

I'm not sure Helton wants to stay here, and I'm not sure Pruitt wants him to stay. I certainly wouldn't fire him unless you got someone waiting in the wings who can do the job. Lesson's learned I guess.:(

I don't think they would leave UGA to come back here unless they just don't like working for Smart.

Pittman is one of the more underrated OL coaches around.

I wasn't really impressed with chaneys offense while he was here. We had some talented lineman during that timeframe but our run game was still stagnent. I remember countless threads debating the blocking scheme and why we couldnt ever run downhill with that offensive line.

Not sure why those guys would leave their current situation to come to a 3-4 rebuild job at best....

Pittman > Chaney.... He (Pittman) currently is at Arkansas with a lot of titles....Would have been a hard pull from Georgia?

I think the key to Irwin's statement is that he wished UT would "spend the money" to get someone "like" Chaney and Pittman. I don't believe either of them would've left UGA for UT, but to open the purses to get a defensive coach (Pruitt) the assistance of a top level OC and OL coach... Just my interpretation anyways. I think some UGA fans might be ok parting with Chaney, depending on the game, but Pittman is adored by UGA fans.

On the bright side we had more punting yards than we did total offense against mighty Charlotte, that’s progress isn’t it?

We also had more penalty yards than we did rushing yards, again, we are getting there albeit slowly

But where we are getting is your best guess, no?

The offense wasn't the problem when Chaney was here with Bray. We averaged over 30 points per game. The problem was we gave up nearly 40.

*in 2012 we averaged 36.2 (22nd of 124) and gave up 35.7 (108th of 124)

And from an article when UGA hired him in regards to his time at Tennessee: Three seasons that statistically were all over the place, from 104th nationally in 2011 back up to 18th the next year. Tennessee’s passing offense ranked in the top 50 every year, including No. 15 in 2012. Butnthe running offense was always outside the top 50 including 116th in 2011.
