(This has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys)

I'm wondering if the Doolander actually inherited a better sitaution than CBJ. Kiffin marched through Knoxville like Sherman through Atlanta, but - and this is a testament to the Doolander's incompetence - I'm wondering if CBJ inherited a worse situation.

I think Rivals has us ranked at 24th, which is 11th in the SEC. When you consider who is going pro this cycle, is the talent that far off Kiffin's worst ever recruiting class? Is this a function of where Captain Hygiene left the program or does this foreshadow another three year coaching tenure at Tennessee?

Plenty could still happen before the end of play tomorrow, and I've started to warm to CBJ (post Gruden euphoria). Are we worried about this, or did we just have to write-off Year Zero post-Dooley?

I would much rather clean up a Kiffin recruiting class than a Dooley recruiting class.

Kiffin *got* Eric Berry. Enough said. Dooley still got good talent, but no depth. CBJ got more depth than Dooley, but not as much talent?

*EDIT: :lolabove: got = INHERITED

You could simply choose to be optimistic. Take a look at all the different teams that are "ranked" below us. I think you'll be surprised. Far too many people put too much weight in these rankings. Recruiting classes are built on hope...not guarantees. People need to understand this. Tennessee ruled the recruiting "ranking" for years in the late 90's -2000's. How many national/SEC titles did it land us? Obviously the 98 championship year, but other than that??? My point is...don't underestimate "PLAYER DEVELOPMENT"! We have been beaten many times by less talented but better coached teams. I am very optimistic that coach Jones will make some waves in the next few years. When and if this happens, I think you'll gain the attention of the the "5 stars" that you so desperately long for! GO VOLS!!!!!!!

Absolutely. It's simple- Dooley didn't have to follow Dooley.... CBJ does. End of discussion.

Dooley had his best year that year with Kiffen/Fulmer players, he had less players but he had way more talent than he's left CBJ.

the hardest places to replace with young guys are QB, OL, and DL

DD inherited not 1 QB with any experience or time in program - he inherited 1 returning OL - he inherited virtually nothing of note at DL, especially DT

CBJ inherits 2 qb's with time in program, 1 with experience, and 1 that was very highly touted - his OL has 5 upperclassman that will start and first guy off bench will be upperclassman as well, at least 4 of these have a legitimate shot at the NFL - his DL is full of seniors, the 2 DT's both have very good shot to make NFL

this isnt even close guys

Kiffin had nothing to do with getting Eric Berry! Kiffin came in on Eric's 3rd year at UT!! How long have you been a fan?

Our facilities are better and we have a better A.D., than when Dooley arrived.

The roster is not improved over what Dooley inherited though.

Also, fans could easily remember a winning season and a bowl game with Kiffin but now we have to look to 3 seasons ago to even see a winning record...

I don't believe that Coach Jones is the way he seems to be though. I think that he is acting all Vols so he can win the fans support because he knows it may be a long haul to get to a winning record again. The fans helped run Fulmer & Dooley off. Coach Jones realizes this and is being pro active in that matter.

i think by get he means inherited - threw me too

Yup, thats what I meant. My bad, should have worded it better. Since the thread was about what coaches inherited, I thought others would figure it out based on context, but I was wrong!

Kiffin had:

Luke Stocker, D. Moore, Crompton, Hardesty, Wes Brown, Ben Martin, Dan Williams, Faud Revez, Lathers, Berry, Jantzen Jackson, Rico McCoy. (Kiffin recruited Jantzen Jackson, so he was not a Fulmer hold over)
