Not trying to stir anything up, but I'm sure it will, but after seeing him play the last two years at Memphis my goodness. He plays with a ton of confidence, throws the ball well, and can even get out of the pocket when needed. I didn't follow it much when he left, maybe someone can help me understand why UT didn't try and hold on to a talent like that. Was it because UT had Dobbs?

Riley, Nathan Peterman, and Josh Dobbs.....

Riley acted stupidly in his time here....and left like a little spoiled brat wussy....

No doubt that Dobbs was the guy out of those 3....

Riley need to grow up...and it appears that he has...

I still don't know why Peterman couldn't play for us...he is the enigma....had enough talent to get it done, but just couldn't do it for us... But it would've been nice to have Peterman develop into the starter in order to give Dobbs a red-shirt...

Josh Dobbs leading team 121 would've been awesome!!!

No no no.

Kid only had a 3star heart.
I don't think he was run off or had his scholarship pulled. I think he chose to leave.

Butch only recruits 5star hearts.

Developing talent is tough enough for Butch. Don't put developing heart on him as well.

HE Was hurt his freshman yr

He quit before the next season.

What was Jones supposed to do? Beg him back? He didn't play anywhere in 2014. Decided to try again at JC in '15.

Dobbs beat him out. He went somewhere in a lessor conference where he thought he would have the chance to play.

I think it's the reverse. Riley Ferguson misevaluated what a unique and wonderful experience it is to be a Tennessee Volunteer football player, much less a QB, who simply had to continue improving and eventually would have played IMO.

To late to second guess now, Ferguson and Stephens(lit ala up.real OC on staff) are excelling at their current schools. Peterman is in the nfl.

Butch waited till year 5 to hire a QB coach, and then hired a running back coach instead of a an actual QB coach.

I'm thinking Riley just has an IQ above 80 and was able to see that he'd been hoodwinked, and got out before he put himself in a system that doesn't develop players to their potential.

I guess what I am getting at is Dobbs and Ferguson we're both young, but from what I remember Riley had a better arm. Was it a case of Butch sticking with his first choice and not wanting to change. An article was released after Memphis beat UCLA talking about how Riley didn't enjoy football after left UT and worked at a car dealership or something like that for a year and tried out CC.

In essentially his own words, as cited in the article linked above: "Riley doesn’t delve deeply into the reasons he decided to leave. He says he regrets it, that he was immature, that he certainly should have called coach Butch Jones. But he didn’t leave because he had fallen behind in the quarterback competition. Quite the opposite. Just weeks before Ferguson left, the Chattanooga paper reported that Ferguson and Worley “had separated themselves from Josh Dobbs and Nathan Peterman.”

“I was battling with Justin Worley and Josh Dobbs was actually behind me,” said Ferguson. “I just left on my own.”

The decision exasperated Don Ferguson, RileyÂ’s father, who urged his son to give it some more time."

Riley was immature and had a lot of attitude. Felt he should be getting reps without putting in the time to earn reps. As I said he was immature. He has done well

<blue font> Right, it was just a dxxn shame Dobbs got no consideration due to his being underdeveloped on draft day. Butch done him wrong!!!!

You are D4H-crazy if you think Josh Dobbs is even remotely ready to run an NFL offense after 4 years of struggling to complete passes longer than 10 yards at UT with no QB coach to help him develop.

Good for him.

Would this also happened to describe what you're hearing about another "chosen one" that is currently on the roster?

You're whole point is still wrong. And Peterman did beat out Dobbs. Twice.

I'm sure you also believe Colton Jumper beat out Daniel Bituli for that #1 middle linebacker position after DKjr went down as well? Or was that just another dumb personnel decision by Butch Jones? Like he's done repeatedly here.

How many players have we seen shine on the field after the guy starting ahead of them gets hurt and we find out the backup was better than the starter? This has happened repeatedly during the Butch Jones era at Tennessee. We continually see guys (i.e. Marquez Callaway) emerge because of injury and have us wondering why he wasn't always starting.

This^ Him leaving wasn't a coaching decision. Kid was messed up and to his credit, got himself right. There are plenty of mistakes to pore over...don't need to reach.
