Derrell Scott Commits!!

i think paulk will redshirt. let his knee get nice and strong like they did maggit. paulk might be the most complete running back of the three. acl injuries can be tricky to get back at 100%.

I have picked Paulk as the sleeper of the class. You're right in saying ACL's can be tricky. Not all heal to 100%. If he gets healthy then he will be another excellent back.

Surprises like this at this stage in the recruiting battle perhaps is an indication of more good things to come in the last few days before NSD. Sure beats the surprises, or lack thereof, we've had the last few years! Can't wait to see hurd and scott on the field in the fall! GBO!

No, you are right. I will choose to ignore any and all problems. I will put my fingers in my ears and sing la la la anytime someone wants to discuss any concerns with the team. I won't expect excellence from Tennessee. Instead I will keep saying next year or the year after that.
Thanks for showing me the way.

Many fans don't ignore problems with the team...Im one of those fans. But, as a fan, I am not going to search out reasons to support us sucking....Bama fans on VN don't bash Vols as much as negavols....come on.
I believe you,me, and most are Vol fans and bleed orange, but we all need to get behind this team .....instead of mouthing off about they will suck(how does that help?)

Whoever “X” is on Tony Basilio’s blog makes a compelling argument for the significance of Scott’s commitment (see The Tony Basilio Show). He points out that Scott is a “composite 4 star prospect” whom ESPN ranks as the 109th best prospect nationally and the 11th best running back. He concludes that Scott’s commitment was significant for a number of reasons, first as a means of demonstrating continued inroads on recruiting within North Carolina. He speculates that “Scott will have every bit of the impact on the 2014 season as North had on the 2013 season.... if not a bigger impact.” I don’t know if he is correct on the following observation or not, but “X” also says that this was the first major recruiting victory by Tennessee in head-to-head battle with the Chicken Nation in quite some time, a coup which was magnified by the fact that Scott was “the #1 running back on South Carolina's board,” had been committed to them for a long time and we landed him at the eleventh hour of recruiting season. Additionally, Scott had a serious list of suitors, with offers from Florida, Oregon, Ohio State, Florida State and South Carolina among others. In projecting Scott’s immediate impact, “X” notes that “Scott and Hurd have skill sets which complement each other . . . [and the] speed upgrade these kids bring should be obvious before the first quarter of the Utah State game. . . . Scott's profile says he runs a 4.5 forty dash but in watching his film he sure looks faster.”

I have been a big fan of this guy for a long time. I think top end speed is one of the few just "above average" things about him. That 4.5 corresponds to the track times he's posted.

I don't think X even emphasizes the locations significance of his commitment. He's from the same general area as Hardesty. UT has usually done well west of Hickory, NC and had some success around Charlotte. Scott comes from the coastal area. That area has LONG been poor on HSFB quality but abundant with great athletes.

It is one of those areas that will not only improve in the production of great prospects... it will likely do so very, very fast.

Holy straw man...
