Butch Jones' last season (2017)

4-8
Total Offense: 125th
Total Defense: 83rd
Sacks Allowed: 115th
Opponent third down conversion: 115th

Derek Dooley's last season (2012)

5-7
Total Offense: 18th
Total Defense: 110th
Sacks Allowed: 3rd
Opponent third down conversion: 53rd

Had Dooley somehow managed to get Wilcox to stay for 2012, we win the SEC East.

We'll say dooley was the worse of the two but dooley beat butch on the field and in the record books. Hell even dooley's staff finished with a better record when both were fired before the season.(that doesn't matter, I just added it because I think it's comical)

Good Grief. Title should read:

Charlie Brown vs. Homer Simpson

But they want to know who sucked the worst. I say Butch.

Yeah, if we are only looking at the last season the numbers speak for themselves. 2017 was the worst season in the history of the program. 'Nuff said.

Butch Jones is in a whole 'nother class of horrible. The man could not shape his playcalling to suit his personel. No matter what, we were going to run that zone read play over and over. Yeah, we may have won several nail biters with an athelete like Dobbs under center. The problem with Jones is that it didnt matter who was the qb or o line or RB. He was gonna run his stupid delayed running scheme which was usually telegraphed, almost every time. It was a stupid, and outdated offensive scheme. The worst part about it all was when he forced personel like Worley, to run it. He didn't work in that system at all. That's coaching, and he was a terrible one.

The only one that matters is the record. They were both pathetic, and both did their part to keep Tennessee irrelevant, the 1st half of the 2016 season notwithstanding.

I think Butch's tenure was like a rollercoaster. Sometimes we were really, really good and sometimes we were really, really bad. I'll never forget how awesome I felt after the Hail Mary against Georgia. Unfortunately, Butch was unable to put a consistently good team out on the field.

Dooley was terrible from start to finish and the definition of a panic hire. We never had a chance to do anything with him as our HC. When I hear more about the color of a coach's pants than I do the quality of his football team there's a problem...and that problem was immediate.

Dooley’s Last team would have beaten Butch’s last team by a few touchdowns.
Yeah, but to be fair, Butch's 2016 team would've beaten any Dooley team during the Dooley era by 10+ points.

Imagine for a moment Sal's defense trying to stop Dobbs, or Bray having to scramble to escape Barnett.

Actually Dooley's 2012 team would have matched up well with the 2016 Vols. Botch would hang 50 points and defenses wouldn't be able to stop each other.

Dooley took 3 stars and they played like 3 stars.

Butch took 4 and 5 stars and they played like 3 stars.

Butch was obviously a better recruiter but Dooley was a better (still not good) coach

Unlike Dooley, Butch actually had some level of success here

Dooley was arguably the worst hire in modern day SEC history when at UT.
Butch was ehhh.
Past is past.
So what, now what!
