Derek Barnett said during the press conference: "We can't blame it on injuries. It was embarrassing and we didn't get it done. We can't blame it on injuries. There are 11 guys on defense and 11 on offense out there and we're just not getting it done. It needs to be fixed."

Sad we won't see him back again next year. He is a straight out monster, who plays with more heart than anyone else on the team.

Barnett is right. I have been the biggest injury apologist on here but this game takes the cake. Barnett again was the lone bright spot on a horrific defense.

Either we have a lot of players on defense that have low football IQs or they are not coached well. I have a hard time believing that we have recruited this many guys, who have been playing football for literally decades in some cases, who are dumb at football.

We've seen a lot of bad football in every game, even the ones that we pulled the W out of this year.

What the hell does Barnett know about it? Does he not read VN? Of course it's the injuries, and nothing but the injuries. Hell, even Butch said so tonight in his (very brief) presser. There's no stepping up and being accountable on here Derek. Get with the program young man. We'd easily be 12-0 and #1 in the country if we hadn't lost 1 starting and 2 backup DTs this year.

Injuries matter...against the Bama's and T A&M's...but South Carolina I thought it was Hurd's cancer killing team unity...but now it simply seems our coaching staff has caused this team to go backwards.

I see the good...but Butch has peeked. I can't defend him anymore. It is a sad pathetic day for VolNation.

Really sucks that a kid as talented as Barnett is sssocisted with a defense that gave up that many yards. It's a scheme issue. No adjustments by Shoop, made Shurmur look like an all star and gave up a record amount of yards.

We need to understand what Shoop is/was thinking over the last half of the season. I wonder if there is some conflict in the coaching ranks, cause it sure turned to crap in a hurry.

Can't defend the run or pass. DB's getting smoked. DLINE getting man handled. DB has the guts to tell it like it is. Can't believe we are this bad! Clean house!

Butch Jones is a weak man and a mental midget. He's holding the team back with poor leadership on all fronts. Follow at your peril for the sheep are leading the flock to slaughter.

You'd think, but the DB's and LB's are really bad. I mean historically bad. Butch just fails at recruiting in these two positions

Team was just soft overall. Poor fundamentals and Shoop never adjusted anything.. Not sure he could adjust much , maybe try a different formation from time to time. Maybe he takes the Delaware job.. He definitely didn't improve this defense this year.
