Defense 3-4

This would work.
But where's the depth?

And who starts in our secondary.

You still have Johnson, Bain on the Dline and maybe Tuttle.
Bates, Bryant and Sapp at LB.

It ain't happening. UT will be in a 4-3.

DBs would benefit from new coach. Lots of names but no one that knocks your socks off. Martin is super talented. Henderson could emerge. Osborne should start or play a good bit.

Ok real football guys... What do you think with the talent and guys like Will Ig... And Darrell Taylor and with us not having a true sack master at DE with guys like Kyle Phillips being able to beef up... I think it would do well for us to have a 3-4 single gap scheme.... What do you think?

No. Don't you remember what happened last time we tried to transition from a 4-3 to a3-4? Let me refresh you we went 5-7 with one of the most potent offenses in school history.

Shoop likes to run a 4-3 single gap system. Single gap , meaning that the front attacks a gap and not a lineman.
Shoop like to run quarters behind that or other zones and attack with the linebackers. The problem after the injuries is that the interior guys were getting beaten bad ( I know that some folks think that back up DEs should be coached up to be great starting DTS ) The A & B gaps were flapping in the wind and the whole scheme melted down from inside out because of this. The main player in the defense is the OLB - called the 'star' player.

So why would a single gap 3-4 do up any good ? The same gaps are assigned in much the same method and the DE is called an OLB ...and he stands up some and goes knuckles down some . Shoop does some of that too. Are you really wanting a 2 gap 3-4 ..which is alot different than what we do ?

Well this blew up.... Haha anyway the Gap scheme for the 34 I'm thinking about doesn't require a big beefy NG... Think Denver... Now I study a decent amount of football an I am usually on Coaches Forums so I had no idea how this was going to go but here it goes.... So if we had someone that can shoot a gap in a single gap scheme 34 the big thing for a NG if you want to run that is... arm length and being able to penetrate quickly because on the defensive line what you give up in size you better make up for in good leverage, technique, and quickness. If the new Lb from AL Will Ig is as good as advertised he should flourish in this defense and a guy like Derrell Taylor LB should flourish as well... The main thought I had is to cover up the lack of a dominant DE... Now with all that said we need a very good veteran Buck to gobble up some tackles... Also heard that we need bigger LB's which doesn't make some if it is one gap football... And also just because Sal ran it and didn't succeed doesn't mean anything... (Where is he coaching now?) but nonetheless I have not done enough study on or personnel to know for sure but I can see some pieces but from what I remember we ran a lot of 4-2-5 and if we keep doing that the aggression of the safeties need to ramp up... Again I know there is a lot of grammatical errors... Just a coach trying to throw some thoughts out there

Hasn't Saban even moved away from the My. Cody type of nose tackle to more athletic NT, and faster LBs?

I remember Wilcox doing better with a lot less talent than UT had last year.
I viewed Shoop much the same way, a cerebral DC who could scheme around deficiencies. Wrong. Of course , Wilcox had much better assistants. Butch needs to lose Martinez, Strip needs to retire. They have recruited the heck out of LBs but they havent developed.

Ya he has slimmed down the OlB and DT because pretty much of The spread offense... He wasn't getting there quick enough and it was hashing them up... They like to run a lot more 4-2-5 now then they did and they ran it a lot on us then... Better suited to stop what we do... But honestly coaches don't win or lose the games... The players win and lose games (not to say bad prep and putting guys where they are going to be most successful doesn't)
