It looked (to me) that he was worried about a back shoulder catch and slowed to find the ball...but if we had a dominating safety the pass would have been broken up anyway...with Sutton out, I don't see any future NFL DBs on the field for us right now...we have some good guys but lack a superstar like a Dale Carter, Deon Grant, Eric Berry, etc...I'm hoping Warrior might be our next great DB...
How do you know? Not arguing with you--but you can't tell me that Evan Berry can't play the position of S--or even CB better than 12 or 13...
Berry should be on the field in some capacity...and the ball should get into his hands more times that it does right now--and it's an incredible waste of his talent.
While it is true that all Foreman had to do was run with his receiver to cover--and it is true that the Safety didn't get over....our DC put them into a situation where they had the greatest chance to fail!
1. Foreman should've NEVER been required to run 40 yds with that receiver in man coverage bump and run....
2. Safety, #22, had the slot receiver run right in his face down the seam and to the post as #7 had him in man coverage for 40 yds, too.... Eye discipline of 22 tested and he was late over the top... 22 should have never been put in a position where he was faced with that decision.....Shoop could've settled that issue before the ball was snapped by calling cover 3....
3. These events are WHY it was stupid to be in Cover 2 man...and that's not genius at all---it's stupid. And I don't care if he is an ivy league graduate....they haven't cornered the market on intelligence--and football IQ...
4. NO reason to be in MAN coverage in that situation....Cover 3 zone is not a prevent, but it does split the field into 3rds to have a guy deep with only ONE assignment--defend the long pass in your zone. UGA ran 3 receivers deep on the play....into each deep 3rd of the field....as most teams would--or they would run 4 verticals... Cover 2 man is not ABLE to cover all of them in any situation.
And it is as simple as that.....STUPID PLAY CALL....
