I thought he was coming back this week? Was I wrong? What’s the latest on him? Anyone know? I want to see this guy on the field running the football. I think he gives us some power with his strength. I also think with what we have at running back right now, adding him to this corp group in a game, would be phenomenal. Good grief what a group of guys we have

He was there against BG, just didn’t play.

From my understanding they just can’t figure out what to do with him. He’s a very skilled player but his role, whatever it will end up being, may take some time to develop.

There’s also the theory that whatever packages we have for him may have just been hidden for BG. I’d say that’s quite possible.

They’re not going to “hold” anyone out with talent to surprise another team. Seems too far fetched and if true then something is wrong with the coaches

Jeez it’s been said by the coaches that he needs to Learn to block in order to play. He struggles with that right now and is not going to see the field because of it.
Can't fiqure that out sometimes. It's mandatory these days and just last night Ezekiel Elliot was staying in a lot to protect Prescott. Then you watch D.Henry and rarely see him do it. E.Gray while a speedster and break-away threat while at UT got trucked a lot while trying to block. As big as Beckwith is he shouldn't have any problem picking up a blitz. He seems like a good runner along with L.Whitehead and they're our biggest backs.

Some dudes just don’t like getting popped, Evans and Small don’t mind putting a hat on a blitzing linebacker. As they showed against Bowling Green.

I’m sure Beckwith will get it but right now he doesn’t have it. But, like you said it’s kind of crazy he doesn’t have it yet being as big as he is.

He is a man without a position. At 6'5" can't get low enough to be an effective Running Back. He is 5th string at best. Tennessee played 4 backs and he did not play. He has some talent but where to use that talent is the question. He is not fast enough to be a Wideout. He is not strong enough to play tight end or outside linebacker. I think he could put on 20 lbs and be a really good Tight End but he has to want to play that position.

Jesus dude you are making all kinds of assumptions.

He's fast enough to play wideout.
Defensively strong enough to play TE.
And he was balling this spring at RB, or did people suddenly forget how he was running people over into the endzone?

Jamal Lewis wasn't good at blocking either.

It's not just about being physical or big.

It's also about timing and anticipation.

Beckwith was lowering his shoulder this spring and running over folks.
He's plenty physical.

If he does indeed have blocking issues it's because technique, not because he's afraid of contact.

That notion, that they don't know how to use him worries me.
In the back of my mind Ive wondered that.
Because all of Heupels RBs are always small and quick with homerun capabilities. Those type work well with uptempo. Think of Oregon with James and Barner, DeAnthony Thomas.

However, Dee was hurt last week.
But even before that, it seemed he was not getting mentioned as much as being a factor.

Which is absolutely ridiculous considering his skillset.

Florida would definitely know how to use him. Or Alabama. Georgia too.

We'll just have to wait and see what is.

Just Curious...Have you seen his SKILLSET in a college game? I wasn`t overly impressed with his OW game.

His skillset is that he's 6-5/227 and can run. If our coaches can't figure out how to get him 1-on-1 with an undersized DB or slower LB that's on them. If nothing else why not just dump it to him in the flats and see if he can outrun a LB and truck a DB for 5 yard gain? Who knows he may knock someone out of the game or pop off a big gain.

Considering our tempo can you imagine having to tackle Dee Beckwith then cover Jalin Hyatt up the sideline 15 seconds later?

The simple fact that the coaches have not mentioned him being close to getting playing time neither in the spring or all fall workouts should speak volumes to you guys. You think if he was dominating the scrimmages and killing it in practice the coaches would be like,….na we ain’t gonna play him in a game! Just because he looks like a freak athlete doesn’t mean he is. I would love to see him ball out but sounds like he don’t have it. He’s not Derrick Henry. Theirs only one.

Not picking on you, just a thought after reading all above posts. It seems many posters think he has good hands and can catch the ball. Has this been proven? It may fall into the same problem as his lack of being able to (or not wanting to) block.

This is the #1 reason RBs are held out if they are talented enough to play. Can't risk a blown blocking assignment that gets your QB hurt.

I've wondered about his hands as well. Could be an issue, not sure. If he can't catch though it seems they would put him on defense? Either way there's definitely something keeping him off the field. I just hope it's not lack of creativity form our coaching staff.

His size and athleticism sounds cool at RB but sometimes you have to have a knack for that position. it seems like he is still learning the ins and outs of the position. Hopefully, he can grow into a hybrid player that can be similar to a Kyle Pitts or a 3rd down back that can catch.
