DeBord, Gillespie & Thigpen get substantial raises

I've liked the DeBord hire from the beginning. I don't get the disparagement either. He is likely the reason we are East favorites this year. Not the only reason, but probably the main reason.

Were mistakes made last year. Of course they were. If you really watched the games though, it was pretty obvious to me that DeBord was good at it. Even early on when he was knocking the rust off.

Remember, we were winning every game we lost and the Defense didn't hold. DeBord, for the most part, did his job. The defensive issue.......all I have to say about that is........Shoop.

Yep. And he's still about $800k less than Pruitt was last year, which savings is being distributed. While some want to blame playcalls / coaching for 2015, I really think the players (the captains) know the 4 losses were on the players -- depth/experience (lack of), which is not an issue this year (if healthy). Shoop will show the D how to find those extra 21 points (I think we needed only 21, not 25).

I remember when there was talk that Thig may have been leaving after last season. Maybe this is what allowed us to hold onto him. And it's hard not to justify Gillespie getting a raise when we have an awesome RB group and we keep getting good backs in recruiting. I think Debord will prove his worth this season when we are beating almost every team by 20+ points.

Gillespie is a class act and under appreciated to boot, he is of great value to the Vols

Regardless of 2nd half woes on offense, only 1 game did they lose due to the offense. DeBord has done just fine. Not sure why you would give them a raise right before the championship run year, but as long as the offense continues to produce...

You don't wait to show how much you appreciate the coaches you value...unless you want to lose them. We talk about being a big time program...those spend money.

I get that, and I forget that DeBord has only been here 1 year Lol
I guess I was thinking "they haven't proven anything yet" but that's actually on Butch. Just because the HC may fail, doesn't mean a great asst coach shpuldnt get paid.

True, what if most of the fault was on the S&CC and the WRs ball this year?

I don't think the S&CC has been responsible for 3 straight years of WRs struggling to get off press coverage and get adequate separation. At this point I'm just hoping that our very talented, athletic, big and strong kids can overcome Azzani's "coaching" and find success in spite of him.

Terrible OLD at one point, QB struggles with the deep ball, injuries... I think everything played a part. This year is the year for anyone to be exposed, coach or player. If you can't get the passing game going, its either CZA needs gone or Dobbs simply isnt a great passer.
I think he has taught them to be good blockers (compared to Dooley and latter Fulmer) but I agree about separation and getting open
