I’m going to get slammed for this, but so be it. I love this program as much as anyone, so I’ll voice my $.02 as does the next guy. What surprises me most about many of the characters on this board is that if you take a position opposite the majority, you’re either a “fulmerite”, “negavol”, or whatever. I’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, I just think some things are so obvious it’s extremely difficult to sit back and let it go.

Phil is history. We can all agree on that.

But what we don’t agree on is Kiffin and his ability to take us to the next level. Watching the presser confirmed what I believed all along……..this guy doesn’t have a clue what he just stepped into. He literally looked like a “deer in the headlights”, and even his attempt to connect with the Faithful seemed forced. I’m sure to him this is the “Job of all Jobs” and rightly so. But without coaching a game, it is so apparent that he is way, way, way out of his league.

Miss St. might have been a better fit for him. At a place where just making it to a bowl game is enough, Kiffin might have fit right in. At a place where it is understood that you’re probably never going to make it to the SEC Championship Game and it is definite that you’re never going to win it, Kiffin could have found a place to grow. Instead, he has landed at a place where, no matter what you all are saying now, if you don’t beat UF in 3 years, you’re a goner.

I wish the man luck. I want him to succeed. I think we have the support, facilities, and players to succeed. I just don’t think we have the right coach.

I hope I’m wrong. But believe it or not, it won’t take 3 yrs to find out. At this time next year, everyone will be a believer….one way or the other.

Wow, I had a much different opinion of him after the press conference. I thought he knew exactly what he was doing.

So your only giving him one year?

I'm not giving him one year.....my point is that we'll know one way or another by this time next yr whether he does have the ability (or potential) to pull this off.

I must have seen a different presser. I was highly impressed, and didn't get the feeling at all that he was out of his league...more like he was the man to bring us back to the top

Oh, I think he was nervous, but recovered nicely. I would have been the same, this is a major press conference and he handled everything well. Let's give him a chance before for throw him under the bus.

do you feel confident in judging his coaching abilities on a PRESS CONFERENCE???

the rush judgments some of you come up with...*shakes head*

can we just wait AT LEAST until after the Florida game to start this stuff?

You, me or anyone else don't know what will happen with this program under Kiffin until he starts coaching and games are played. To put yourself out there with all of your predictions and opinions with no tangible evidence of his abilities to improve this program is a little presumptive. We'll see how he does. As for me, I can't do all that since I failed Clairvoyance 101.

I don't get it. The guy has been at USC and the Raiders, and yet UT is somehow "out of his league?"

Like many above posters, I was thoroughly impressed by him at the presser.

How can someone be "way, way, way out the their league" based on a Press Conference? I just don't get that. Let the man coach first before you judge him on anything.

Having come from USC and being hired as an NFL HC, I can see where you'd think he doesn't understand big time football and high expectations. He probably thinks this is just about tailgates and the Vol Navy.

I hope that you are wrong. I also applaud you on the quality of this post. It is well thought out, well written, and obviously being presented as your opinion (much different than the tone that has lead to some heated exchanges).

My compliments. :hi:
