You are about to let UT get screwed in the upcoming bowl selection process......(deja vu your first year as AD when UT,UF and Ga all tied in the SEC East and you were manhandled in the process of selecting which team played in the SEC c'ship game). You, sir, are about to let Slive and and company let the Vols slide all the way to the Music City or Liberty Bowl!

I thought that the reason the SEC entered into the arrangements with the bowls was to let the teams that finished higher in their division to go to the better bowls. I suggest that you get some balls, and if Slive et al try this stunt, you should consider the SEC bowl arrangement "nul and void". I futhermore suggest you go to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville and guarantee that UT will bring 30,000 fans.........It would take about 30 seconds for the Gator Bowl, (which pays out more than the Chicken-s..t Bowl anyway), to dump the sorrya** third place ACC division team to grab the Vols, IMO.

Just a suggestion. Otherwise, see you in Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham or Shreveport.

Sincerely,
Soon to be disappointed Vol Fan

I thought the Gator Bowl doesn't even have an SEC tie in anymore?

Way too late on this letter. Damage appears to already have been done. But seriously, this is at least the second time that this has happened. Hamilton needs to get his act together and lobby our way into the bowls we have earned.

Yep. Way to step in there and handle it, Hammy.

Primetime New Years Eve against a good opponent > 1130 AM versus a mediocre to bad Big 10 team.

The only thing that makes the Outback 'better' is the payout.

Kiffinator and outkickedcoverage: Yes, the OP knows there is no SEC tie-in to the gator bowl. He stated such in his post. The point of what he said was to to say "Screw the SEC, we can get a better bowl on our own". UT would be a better draw then the 3rd place ACC team.

I don't really know what, if anything, he could have done differently, but this is the second time we've ended up in this crappy bowl after finishing second in the east, so it kind of sucks. I don't understand people's mentality of thinking "we're lucky to even be in a bowl game, and should be happy no matter what we get". The team earned the right to play on New Year's Day, and it sucks to seen them have to slum it in Atlanta just because Auburn presold more tickets that us.

Uh, there was nothing Hamilton could have done about the '03 SECCG. Since all 3 teams were tied and the head-to-heads cancelled each other out, the next tiebreaker was highest BCS ranking. UGA was the highest ranked team. That's why UGA went to Atlanta in '03. Had nothing to do with anybody lobbying for it.

that's not the way it works. there's several tiebreakers that determine who gets to play in atlanta in case of a three way tie. what you said has nothing to do with it.

You people DO realize playing on New Years Day is no longer special? It hasn't been special since the BCS was created.

This...and UT doesn't even get the entire payout, IIRC. I think all the money collected by SEC teams in bowls goes into one pot from which each school is paid evenly. At least that's how I remember it; I could be wrong.

Not necessarily on NYD, but there's a BIG difference between playing after the New Year compared to before it. All the good games are held on Jan. 1 or after.

fyp. you're right in the sense that most of the games played after new year's eve are more prestigious and have better payouts.....but there are still a few other bowls that don't deserve to be played in january that have been written in for that month in recent years.

There may be some lower games thrown in there, but all the truly prestigious bowl games will be played either on, or in the week following New Years Day.

I'm pretty sure you can't just override contractual obligations with conferences because you decide you would like to go to a particular bowl.

Yea, we finished 2nd in the East. We were also 0-3 vs. the West.

Bowl names and formalities aside, which game would you rather be a part of?

#11 Virginia Tech vs Tennessee: During a night when you're more likely to get drunk anyways

Wisconsin vs Tennessee (see 2008): One which will be halfway over by the time you're fully awake

Plus, I think it's safe to say the team will be more pumped for Va Tech anyways. go vols
