Why is the defense so bad? Is it scheme or is it defeciencies in all areas? Just looking for opinions.

Demonte Bolden has been pretty good. Dan Williams is young but still have a lot of upside. Xavier Mitchell is alright but not good enough, IMO. Antonio Reynolds is slow and is only playing because of seniority and lack of depth. LB's are out of position a lot. These were supposed to be our best group, too. Chavis always has stud LB's...except the first 3 games of this year. Hef has been disappointing. Isn't he supposed to be All-American? Berry is a star in the making. Marsalous Johnson is a first year starter but is alright. Parrish is starting because lack of depth and seniority. Does that sum it up?

anyone else notice that our second team line seems to get more pressure on the qb. They seem to have done better in the smu game and also in the florida game while they were in.

don't let anyone persuade you that it is nothing less than indecisive and unprepared and coaching...no innovation on defense

On the radio this morning, everyone seemed to point the finger at the DE and the Safeties. No rush from the defensive ends and Parrish is terrible at safety. Hefney misses too many tackles. Fulmer's comments were that Berry gave up too many TD's/big plays.

Bingo.

I'm also sick of hearing Fulmer blame our defensive struggles on "over pursuit" and "too much effort."

Seriously...too much effort? What the hell is that?

Clearly the problem is that these guys are getting coached too well.

It's tackling. Plain and simple. We were in position a lot, but couldn't tackle. Against the spread, with one on one situations, a missed tackle equals 10-20 more yards.

Berry will be amazing, but he, like many DB's nation-wide, need to cover the PLAYER rather than the ball. Jumping up for the pick is an all or nothing type deal.

To me the real question is how we've gotten here. Look, at least on this topic we can't be talking about some long and ongoing slip into mediocrity. Our '05 defense was #1 (as in the very best) in the SEC against the run. We allowed 82.5 yards a game and a whole 2.5 ypc and only allowed 8 rushing TD's.

Guys, that was all of TWO seasons ago. :dunno:
