DB Play

It doesn't matter what you're tired of. UT football will be here long after you are gone. This is a rebuild. Pruitt has his work cut out for him, hopefully he will coach 'em up and we will see progress by season's end. Most of us knew this, you are behind the curve. Man up and quit whining.

UT football will be here long after im gone and still playing like garbage most likely.

Wow......then why do you bother? Not buying it man. You're just venting after a loss. Gain some perspective, it's what adults do.

Our defense as a whole was just not good. No rush from the front seven at all. I thought CJP was going to make some adjustments and give our corners more help over the top though I kept seeing their WR's getting matched up with a safety alone. Luckily we have two cupcakes upcoming to work things out. I dont see us winning more than 5 games at this point unfortunately.

The problem with the DB play is the DL play. No DBs, none, can cover WRs when the DTs and DEs are allergic to the opposing offensive backfield like our guys are.
Exactly! I'll take our young secondary over our experienced d ine and "olb's" . Absolutely no pressure on Grier all day, db's never stood a chance with that pitiful pass rush.

People need to get a grip on reality, not even Saban went into Bama his first year and dominated.

It takes time, and it wouldn’t have mattered what coach we hired, this year was gonna be a rough one while they recruit to get their kids in place for the next few years along with installing a system while playing with a roster built for a completely different system.

I saw alot of holds. Helmet to helmets weren't called. Chandler got kneed in the head with concussion. Refs were very loose. We should have played accordingly, they did.
Tim Jordan is the real deal.
JG did well. Need to see more pass when we are down by that much, play to win. Don't play not to lose. Keeping Grier off the field via running is good until you are down by 3 possessions with a quarter left. Then you gotta score. Poor adjustments by Helton. Very poor D overall.

I don't know, back in the day when we beat everybody regularly, those great Florida teams made us look pretty silly in the third or 4th game of the season. We were always breaking in new DBs back then and it showed how much better we could have been if we ever got to play them late when we had to in 2001. We get to face perhaps the top QB we will see this year the first game of the season and first for a new staff and system. I don't know if that's an indication of how bad our DBs are, or how inexperienced they are. I just hope we win our next 2 convincingly as we should because if we can't score at least 50, we are definitely in for a long season.

Win convincingly means nothing against these two teams. FL will be the real measuring stick, cause we don't know how good WV is right now. FL will tell us where we stand.

The play calling on defense has been bad. We haven't blitzed enough with the LBs and bringing CB blitzes in the 2nd half exposed the freshman DBs. Gonna be a long season. Looks like we got another 5 year project. Don't get me started with the half ass read option, with a bad oline. We should've been in the iform the entire game. We can't have a positive rushing yard without a lead blocker.
We are not going to put the good stuff on tape for UTEP.

Those complaining about Flowers not turning his head are mistaken. A DB turning his head after losing coverage would be counterproductive until he regains coverage. Flowers mistook the receivers intention and lost coverage. Flowers first responsibility was to close the gap, then get eyes on the ball (turning his head). He tried to do that. Turning his head before closing would only widen the gap and lose visual contact on the receiver. Flowers made a rookie mistake misjudging the pattern. However, not turning his head was irrelevant. He did the right thing after his initial mistake.
Unfortunately, the throw and catch was perfect. This was an NFL caliber QB and receiver corps against a freshman DB.

West Virginia's passing attack is wicked. This was a bad match-up against our freshmen defenders. The defensive line was our only real weakness in this game. No pressure by our Def Line put all the pressure on our secondary.

I believe he is playing because of his speed. When he gets adjusted to the techniques and speed of the college game, he will be a different player.
Well shoot, I have speed too, but that doesn't make a good DB alone. Huge mismatch. Gotta have a veteran in there. 1st game true Freshman? No.

Actually they would have looked better if we could have pressured the QB just a little. We could not get to him with an all out blitz. Any college level QB would have torched those guys given that much time.
