Daytona International Speedway is closing its Experience. It will close on 8 Nov. The attraction which opened in July 1996 has a number of interactive displays including the display of the winning car from each year's Daytona 500. The drop in attendance has plagued NASCAR over the past 2 seasons reported that its 3rd quarter net income fell 18%. Closing the Experience and planning new ways to drive revenue have fallen to Chitwood and his team. Daytona has had to close the 57,000 seat backstretch grandstand for the 2 most recent July races and remove 12,000 back stretch seats to creat a party zone. The track has announced it will expand the track tours and fans will have access to the winning car from the Daytona 500 as part of the track tours. The Richard Petty Experience will returrn to the Speedway once the $20 million track re-paving project is complete. The remainder of the Daytona 500 Experience will be made available for community functions. :disappointed:
I've been to the 500 Experience twice and toured the track and have picture that I'll always remember. I've also went to the Dayton 500 just 2 years ago when Matt Kenseth won the rain shortened race.l
