Ok guys...IMO David Oku should have been redshirted this year so we could have an extra year of eligibility. We aren't using him enough. I know that Kiffin probably made promises to him and that's why he isn't redshirted but still....I'd like to hear your thoughts

there's no telling when/if hardesty or brown get injured, and then oku will be prime for some snaps.

an *extra* year? you only get 4. He said he is happy with his role just this week. What promises do you speculate were made?

Nope.
For several reasons. Way up at the top, is that Kiffin told recruits that they would get the opportunity to play.

He has already developed the reputation of being honest with recruits and I think it will pay off.

Yep.

Why does he NEED an extra year? He will improve much more by playing (even limited amounts) than by sitting on the bench. And I'm not worried whether we'll need him 3 years down the road, because CLK will keep the talent stocked no matter what.

Kiffin didn't promise anyone to my knowledge they wouldn't redshirt and the plan before Toney Williams got hurt was for him to do so.

Tauren Poole is not going to be a part of this team next year so we will likely have a new stud freshman to add to the rotation. No need to redshirt someone that can be productive for you when you are reloading every year.

You really think Poole won't be around next year? Just seems to me he could be a good replacement for Hardesty, not in the lead role but behind BB as the tough guy who maximizes every carry.

If Oku had redshirted, there would still be a chance he is only hear for 4 years. Why not play him all 4?

You have to have three backs in the SEC. You have too. I mean, Hardesty has a bad knee and shoulder, Brown has a bad hip. One hit to those areas and Oku moves up on the depth chart. Also is a special teams player.

+1. He appears to be a couple blocks away from making a big play on kick-offs...

Why can't other people see this? Our blocking is lacking.

I'm pretty sure its more the players than Gran, but I'm willing to bet its the players and the fact that the old coaching staff let them show a lack of effort on special teams, and they're just use to playing truly hard on ST.

If TN needs Oku more four years from now than they do this year then the master plan is a failure

If Toney Williams did not go down with the ACL injury I believe we would have Redshirted OKU...

The season's still relatively young, plenty of time for Oku to increase his involvment in special packages like slot receiver, receiver out of the backfield, change up to Hardesty/Brown, etc.

He's going to break one long on one of these kick-offs.

Oku has a pretty big role for a Freshman imo...

Atleast a much bigger role than when Fulmer was here, for any freshman.

On that note, why the hell is Ben Martin on kickoff returns? You'd think we have better blockers on the other side of the ball that could contribute on special teams.
