I called the Sports Animal show today around 5PM and talked to the screener. He said if UT hires Cutcliff the UT FB program is dead in the water for a long time. I agree 100%. UT will be nothing but a midlevel SEC team under Cutcliff.

"C'mon guys, give him a chance!" Wasn't that the prevailing wisdom in the not-so-distant past?

Cut may not be the best we can do, but boy, it sure beats the hell out of having Kiffin.

The Fox 17 news in Nashville just said Cut will be the next HC...WE ARE SOOOOO SCREWED....if this be the case you all have a duty to call for Hamilton’s resignation ASAP...I would rather have a loosing season than 3, 4, or whatever .500 seasons...NO top blue-chip will come to Knoxville to play for this has been, if he is so good why is he coaching at Duke....Duke for gods sake...WE are screwed, they talk about tradition...well, WINNING is a Tennessee tradition...not financing some has been cardiac Risk’s retirement that will only send us to mediocrity...and if any of you settle for this then you settle for mediocrity, but as for me I don’t...

Although it is widely agreed that Duke Coach and former Vol offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe is a strong contender in the Vols' search for a new coach, it does not appear to be a done deal.

WBIR sister station WFMY reported that Cutcliffe is returning to the University of Tennessee to be the new head coach, based on the word of a reliable source close to Cutcliffe.

However, WBIR contributor Brent Hubbs of Volquest.com is reporting he's spoken to Cutcliffe personally--and Cutcliffe told him that report is not true.

Fellow WBIR contributor Chris Low of ESPN.com is also reporting that Cutcliffe has said no deal has been made.

Duke University told 10News there's nothing official to report.

From WBIR which was updated as of 6:07 PM

A lot of news stations reported this but it is NOT official. How could you trust any news station esp fox 17! but also heard this is dead on level of cut wanting the duke staff with him. We will see, im not against the cutt what so ever, but i would be more "excited" with someone else honestly.

Hammy should resign.....we do agree on that. But Cut won't lead us into NCAA probation, which is exactly what would have happened under LK.

If Coach CUT accepted this offer, would he kill the recruiting year for Duke?
He would be a back stabbler like Kiffin to me.

In my opinion, it's possible that they tried to go for Smith and now that it looks less likely, they're going to settle. I hope I'm wrong.

Cutcliff brought Roper to UT. Both of them are a joke. Cut would split the fanbase and send this program into oblivion for many years.

I can not wait to see the fan reaction of they really name him to the job. You think there was civil unrest when Kiffin left. They will have to call out the National Guard for Cut.
