I heard that Dave Hooker from the KNS staff was talking on ESPN earlier today and that he did not have favorable things to say about our football team.

Does anyone know if this is true? If so, what did he say?

Hooker just said that we were a project and that he thought about 7 wins. Nothing negative just the truth but I'm sure some one here will take that as bad mouthing but thats what was said

He said that a realistic season was a 7 win season. He also said that Lane's boss told him to quite down some after Lane was first hired and made the comments he made. I didn't really appreciate Hooker's input that much, but it wasn't horrible.

I'm not buying it considering Hammy is the one who told him to take a shot at UF at his hiring announcement. Makes no sense.

After reading the thread Freak linked, sounds like he compared us to Vandy & Kentucky.

So I don't agree at all with that (as we will beat both those teams), nor with your assessment that he said nothing negative. :bad:

Hooker actually said that right now UT is "closer" to the Kentuckys and Vandys than the Floridas and Alabamas of the SEC.

Different than what was said in that other thread IMO.

I still don't think I agree with that statement. I feel that right now we are a "middle of the pack" SEC team, which puts us no closer to Vandy or UK than it does Florida/Bama.

But, then again, why should I expect Knoxville journalists to be positive about the Vols, right?:dunno:

Well, given Kiff's recruiting success and the lack of any "on-the-field" performance to judge, as of yet, I'm not sure that you can stoop that low. Will we compete for the SEC this year? Most certainly not. Will we be able to compete in the next couple, assuming ability of our coaching staff to make hay with our recruits? I think so.

I don't think it was an outrageous statement and surely not something to get riled up about (not refering to anyone in here, just saying).

I didn't hear Hooker but I heard John Adams on Sportcenter via phone interview. He basically stated the obvious.... we're not expecting too much this year but we expect to be competitive the next time we're at the Swamp in 2011. He was more positive about the vibe surrounding the Kiffin regime though as opposed to what I'm hearing of Hooker's interview.

I agree. If Hamilton didn't want the publicity than He wouldn't have hired Kiffin.
