First, NFL drafts aren't done by classes. They overlap.

Second, to say that because someone was ranked at a certain spot, based on a single recruiting site, coming out of high school, is not a "surprise" when they're taken in that same spot 4 years later is a pretty simplistic take.

He was ranked No. 10 overall ON THE COMPOSITE, which means the average of all the pertinent sites, not a single site. There are the same number of composite 5 stars every year and every four years that there are first round draft picks, 32 and 128 respectively. That is essentially what a five star means, that the person is projected as having first round NFL draft talent.

ok? so, I never stated i disagreed with you. I, in fact, agree with you! Wow! It's just an apples and oranges discussion as no recruit is currently going, "huh, he got drafted, but obviously not because of the coaching staff, it's just because he was rated 5 stars in high school." when what is happening in reality is our OL coach and Head Coach are telling kids, "hey, did you see the first round? our guy just got drafted #10"

As someone who has been privy to a few hundred of these conversations, it's a huge recruiting tool. Summer time recruiting is all about who got drafted, when, and how the coaches change their pitches surrounding these decisions. NIL is only so much of the discussion this time of the year..

I think it's effectiveness is a bit overstated unless there is a real trend to point to. For example, do you think Northwestern is going to get a huge boon from having Skoronski picked 11th overall?

I really thought HH would be a first rounder but once Levis fell, it almost seemed like HH fell too. Hyatt had a shot with the run on receivers but it started too late. They should be day 2 picks. Still think Hyatt made the right decision. Tennessee has a shot to still get Hook in round 2 like you said. Hope it works out for him.

Northwestern also had a top 15 pick in Rashawn Slater at LT 2 years ago. Definitely helps provide proof of development especially over time/recruiting cycles.

Mississippi State and Maryland come to mind as well. Both programs have put out first rounders over the years even though they don’t have the best records in their respective conferences.

According to who's expectations??

That's a completely idiotic statement.

A 17 year old kid gets ranked high and then he automatically is supposed to be drafted 10 overall into the NFL.??

Believe this means that Vol alums are the highest paid Guard and the highest paid RT in NFL history. Unless someone passed Trey Smith.
